As the Analytics Engineering Lead on the Enterprise Data Architecture team, you will be empowered to solve meaningful problems leveraging data for a brand with a bold mission…to Save Our Home Planet.  Your primary responsibilities include overseeing the tooling, practices, standardization, and support of modeling analytical data layers for Patagonia’s data platforms.  You will communicate and own the technical strategy on building and supporting governed models while inviting broader participation from data analysts across the business, allowing us to rapidly scale and address key analytic needs.  Knowing that CICD is a critical component of a modern data platform, you will work with other analytic leads to ensure best practices are adhered to.  You will also provide functional leadership and oversight around the creation of data models in our Snowflake platform across all analytical domains.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead data modeling strategy – including adoption, optimization, consolidation, and vendor management
  • Communicate best practices, mentor other analytics engineers, and act as a strategic partner in the end-to-end delivery of data products
  • Build and lead the analytics engineering team to design build, deploy, optimize, and evolve data models to support a growing business
  • Ensure data models are built for scale with growing data volume, velocity, and variety
  • Encourage modeling contributions from the larger data community (e.g. data engineers, analysts, power users) while enforcing standards that avoid excessive technical debt and complexity, and allow for paths to certification.
  • Build and maintain relationships with global, cross-functional partners across technology and business teams
  • Adopt and promote an agile mindset and contribute to a broader transition to agile for the organization
  • Collaborate around continuous improvement to minimize technical debt
  • Implement processes to improve transparency and automation around data quality, readiness, and performance
  • Write unit/integration tests
  • Contribute to the engineering wiki, and document data architecture and processes

Who You Are

  • Passionate – for creatively using data and technology to further our mission to save our planet
  • Leader – able to navigate priorities and involve/delegate to the team in the work that needs to be done
  • Adaptable – able to work in a dynamic environment and be a key leader on a growing team
  • Visionary – you see what’s possible and can lead the way into the future
  • Strategic – able to see the big picture and drive work accordingly
  • Collaborative – skilled at working with cross-functional teams, selling the vision and finding consensus
  • Resilient – comfortable and confident through change management

Experience You Bring

  • Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Analytics, or other relevant expertise at a bachelor’s level, or equivalent in self-education/work experience (approximately 5 or more years)
  • Highly proficient in SQL and python
  • Experience designing building scalable, reliable, and reusable data models using SnowFlake as a core data platform and dbt to transform raw ingested data into governed analytical models
  • Experience enabling a broader community of contributors (e.g. data analysts) in data modeling efforts while enforcing standards, paths to certification and effectively managing complexity
  • Experience with other modern data tools such as Great Expectations, Airflow, etc.
  • Experience CICD best practices using Git
  • Experience with Agile delivery
