As the Data Engineering Lead on the Enterprise Data Architecture team, you will be empowered to solve meaningful problems leveraging data for a brand with a bold mission…to Save Our Home Planet. Your primary responsibilities include overseeing the tooling, practices, standardization, and support of data ingestion for Patagonia’s data platforms.  You will communicate and own the technical strategy around data ingestion, partnering with the Data Architecture Lead to create a cohesive end-to-end technical data strategy. Knowing that CICD is a critical component of a modern data platform, you will work with other analytic leads to ensure best practices are adhered to. You will also provide leadership and oversight around the expansion, quality, and reliability of data ingestion pipelines into Snowflake across all analytical domains.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the data ingestion strategy, collaborating with the Data Architecture Lead to make strategic technology decisions and set standards for ingesting and staging data for use in downstream data models and analytics
  • Communicate best practices, mentor other data engineers, and act as a strategic partner in the end-to-end delivery of data products
  • Build and lead the data engineering team to design, build, deploy, optimize, and evolve data ingestion pipelines to support a growing business
  • Ensure pipelines are built to scale with growing data volume, velocity, and variety
  • Lead the DE team to expand the scope of data ingestion to support all domains of analytics and decision-making
  • Build and maintain relationships with cross-functional and global partners across technology and business teams
  • Adopt and promote an agile mindset and contribute to a broader transition to agile for the organization
  • Collaborate around continuous improvement to minimize technical debt
  • Implement processes to improve transparency and automation around data quality, readiness, and performance
  • Write unit/integration tests
  • Oversee timely resolution of production/infrastructure-related issues
  • Contribute to the engineering wiki, and document data architecture and processes
  • Keep a close pulse on rapidly evolving and emerging technologies and discern their value proposition to our org

Experience You Bring

  • Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Analytics, or other relevant expertise at a bachelor’s level, or equivalent in self-education/work experience (approximately 5 or more years)
  • Highly proficient in SQL and python
  • Experience setting up reliable, performant, low-overhead pipelines that feed SnowFlake as a core data plaform
  • Experience with modern ingestion practices and tools such as Fivetran, Matillion and Azure Data Factory
  • Experience with other modern data tools such as Great Expectations, dbt, Airflow, etc.
  • Deep experience with CICD best practices using Git
  • Experience implementing data quality checks to call attention to potential data reliability issues
  • Experience with Agile delivery
  • Experience staging and sourcing data from a wide variety of locations including API protocols, data lakes, cloud/on-prem databases and streaming
  • Experience ingesting semi-structured and unstructured data
