The Team

The Data Analytics team plays the critical role of providing analytical capability across Upstart's organization to enable data-driven decision making. We leverage our analytical and technical skills to support our partners with a multitude of services, some of which include understanding our underwriting models and presenting on trends in our loan performance, analyzing market size opportunities, creating financial models, developing our business intelligence pipeline to enable self-service reporting, and architecting/automating of work processes.

As the Data Analytics Manager of the Data Analytics - Valuation & Internal Partnerships team at Upstart, you will lead and coach the team in fair value model and cross-functional reporting initiatives through building repeatable, scalable, and auditable analytics. 

 

Position Location - This role is available in the following locations: San Mateo,CA LI-REMOTE

Time Zone Requirements - This team operates on the East/West Coast time zones.

Travel Requirements - This team has regular on-site collaboration sessions. These occur 4-5 days per Month at the San Mateo, CA office. If you need to travel to make these meetups, Upstart will cover all travel related expenses

 

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Develop a deep understanding of AI consumer lending marketplace economics and underlying analytics infrastructure supporting various internal partner teams
  • Build tools and enhance methodologies for the asset valuation and forecasting models, informing business decisions with accurate, transparent, and speed delivery of financial impacts 
  • Define and execute strategy in data modeling and reporting process automation initiatives for financial reporting and SOX control activities. Drive data infrastructure and architecture discussions, while influencing data products roadmap
  • Partner with Accounting, Audit, Product, and Engineering teams to support monthly financial reporting and deliver an accurate, consistent, and efficient data reporting process
  • Implement and maintain a suite of reports and dashboards in BI tools such as Looker. Monitor trends in relevant key metrics and report on key insights on a daily basis
  • Work with data service providers to explore APIs, analyze and forecast impact of integrating new data sets, while partnering with Engineering throughout the entire process of on-boarding new data sets

 

What we’re looking for: 

  • Minimum requirements:
    • 3+ years of professional experience in leading analytical team and coaching talents
    • 7+ years of professional experience in developing asset valuation, cash flow forecast, credit loss, econometrics, and/or other quantitative models (e.g., fixed income, structured product)
    • 7+ years of experience in SQL querying, and BI/reporting development with large and complex data set (Looker, Tableau, or Power BI)
    • Experience working with cross-functional teams, developing business requirements to Data Warehousing,  ETL, and/or technical product needs
  • Preferred qualifications:
    • Advanced degree in Business Analytics, Financial Engineering, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering, or other highly quantitative/analytical fields
    • 10 years experience in data analytics tools such as Python or R and using tools like Excel and Google Sheets
    • Strong communication with client-facing and executive level data presentation skills
    • Experienced in project management & documentation, and using tools such as Jira and Confluence
    • Knowledge of statistical methods and machine learning algorithms
    • Previous consumer marketplace lending industry experience with focus on capital markets, finance, accounting, or product

The minimum base pay for this position in Colorado is $126k + bonus + equity + benefits. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This information is provided in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay Act. It is specific to Colorado and may not be applicable to other locations.
