The Team

The Data Analytics team plays the critical role of providing analytical support across Upstart's organization to enable data-driven decision making. We leverage our analytical and technical skills to help our partners with a multitude of services, some of which include understanding our underwriting models and presenting on trends in our loan performance, analyzing market size opportunities, creating financial models, developing our business intelligence pipeline to enable self-service reporting, and architecting/automating of work processes.

As the Senior Data Analyst - Accounting at Upstart, you will be a critical member to own accounting operation automation by building repeatable, scalable, and auditable data pipeline and analytics.

Position Location - This role is available in the following locations: San Mateo, CA

Time Zone Requirements - This team operates on the West Coast time zone.

Travel Requirements - This team has regular on-site collaboration sessions. These occur 4-5 days per Month at the San Mateo office. If you need to travel to make these meetups, Upstart will cover all travel related expenses.

 

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Partner with Accounting, Audit, Product, and Engineering teams to support monthly financial reporting and deliver an accurate, consistent, and efficient data reporting process
  • Own data reporting and automation process for balance sheet and revenue activities, and contribute to faster and more scalable reporting cycles. Participate in data modeling and architecture discussion, influence data products roadmap, and take ownership and responsibility of end to end delivery
  • Lead discussions on data quality and integrity issues, and drive solutions in enhancing accuracy of financial reporting. Work closely with engineering teams to ensure quick turnaround on fixes
  • Create reports and dashboards in BI tools such as Looker. Monitor trends in relevant metrics and report on key insights on a daily basis.
  • Work with various big data platforms, databases and systems such as AWS, Redshift and other big data technologies.
  • Work with data service providers to explore APIs, analyze and forecast impact of integrating new data sets. Work with Engineering throughout the entire process of on-boarding new data sets.

 

What we’re looking for: 

  • Minimum requirements:
    • BS/MS Degree in Business Analytics, Financial Engineering, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering, or other highly quantitative/analytical field
    • 3 years of professional experience in SQL querying, work with large and complex data set with BI/reporting tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Power BI
    • 3 years of professional experience performing data analytics driving insights and influencing business decision
    • Experience in translating business requirements to Data Warehousing and ETL needs
  • Preferred qualifications:
    • 3+ years experience in data analytics tools such as Python or R and using tools like Excel and Google Sheets
    • Strong communication with client-facing and executive level data presentation skills
    • Experienced in project management & documentation, and using tools such as Jira and Confluence
    • Experience in financial modeling of consumer lending products or asset backed securities, and ability to develop and manage financial models independently
    • Knowledge of statistical methods and machine learning algorithms
    • Previous consumer marketplace lending industry experience with focus on capital markets, finance, accounting, or product
