About The Role:

The Data Team strives to build out the central nervous system for the whole company in order to drive better and faster decisions via data. Our charters include both Data Engineering and Data Science. It is our responsibility to build world class data infrastructure and tooling to enable company-wide analytics, create insights & models and data products to drive business growth at scale.

As a Director of Data Engineering, you will lead and grow a team of high performing Data Engineers and Software Engineers. You will articulate and execute the vision of Data Engineering, to build the best-in-class data infrastructures, data foundations and tooling that enables company wide data science and analytics work in a scalable and agile way.

What You Will Do:

    • Recruit, manage, and develop data engineers, software engineers and leaders on the Data Engineering team
    • Own and drive the vision, strategies and roadmap of Data Engineering, and lead the team to execute
    • Specifically, be responsible for building: Highly available, scalable, and easy to use Data warehouse and foundational datasets, to enable self-serve BI reporting and analytics across the company; Robust, highly available, and cost-effective Data systems and tools; Streaming analytics infrastructure and data products, to build Confluent on Confluent
    • Partner with Data Science and x-functional stakeholders and partners, including Product, Engineering, Business Systems, and function operation teams, to align on Data Engineering teams’ dependencies, roadmap, priorities, engagement model, and key processes
    • Be a thought leader, identify high impact project opportunities and process changes, and improve  productivity of the overall Data Team

What You Will Bring:

    • Bachelor or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline
    • 10+ years of experience in the Data Engineering domain in the industry, from companies with a strong data driven culture
    • 5+ years of experience managing a Data Engineering team, with a focus on partnering with Data Science, enterprise systems, and Business Unit embedded operations teams
    • Working knowledge of modern data stack and infrastructures, i.e., Cloud Data warehouse, data integration tools, Airflow, DBT, Tableau, etc. 
    • Working knowledge of programming languages, i.e. SQL, Python, Java/Scala
    • Experience with Kafka in a production environment
    • Strong ability to communicate cross-functionally, derive requirements and architect; to synthesize, simplify and explain complex problems to different types of audiences, including executives

What Gives You An Edge:

    • Familiarity with AWS, GCP or Azure cloud environments and technologies
    • Experience with enterprise business systems such as Salesforce, Marketo, Zendesk, etc.
    • Experience with other Kafka components such as Connect and ksqlDB
    • Product mindset to understand business needs, and come up with scalable engineering solutions
