Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced and transformative Director to lead our team of data engineers to support and evolve our Azure data platform and become an important part of our high-energy, unique, fast-paced, and innovative culture.

The Director of Enterprise Data Engineering is a strategically important position reporting to the Senior Director of Enterprise Data Engineering and Enablement. The position will be primarily responsible for transforming and stewarding the Vail Resorts Marketing Technology Data Engineering and Enablement function through the evolution of our enterprise data journey. This position will bring value to the organization through innovative thought leadership, effective organizational design, talent development, and strong management of the Enterprise Data Engineering and Enablement strategic technical and business initiatives, and stakeholder management of marketing and senior technology leaders.

We are looking for an experienced leader that is highly ambitious, passionate, and detail oriented. This leader will come with deep enterprise Data Engineering expertise with significant experience with solution architecture in Azure, CICD pipelines, Databricks, Snowflake, and analytics data best practices. They will have a proven track record for shepherding through complex and transformative data initiatives that enable strategic business outcomes across Omni-Channel Marketing Technology, Applied Data Science, AI, and Data Engineering.

To succeed in this role, you must have a history of developing high performing teams, hold a keen understanding of the decision-making processes, be able to build relationships with functional leadership, and the ability to systematically improve data driven decisions in a complex environment. This is a unique opportunity to play a vital role in the transformation of a high impact function that is critical to Vail Resort Inc.’s continued success.

  • The expected range is $160,000 - $185,000 + annual bonus + equity 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Partner with our Omni-Channel Marketing teams, Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Program Management, and Business partners to consistently evolve our enterprise data and the products that rely upon
  • Closely collaborating with our business and technology partners to drive storytelling and education to mature and execute our data driven road map and associated investments
  • Translating business needs into data projects and data projects into business implications
  • Educating the company in data literacy and driving efforts to collect, manage, and use internal and external data to drive operational efficiency and better decision-making
  • Partnering with business stakeholders to develop a blueprint and timeline to:
    • Evolve from traditional batch based on-premise to cloud based rapid data deployment
    • Identify improvement areas across people, process and technology
    • Envision, define, and implement new data-enabled strategies and capabilities
    • Consolidate and rationalize selected functions
    • Making high priority technology investments
    • Implement a robust and agile information architecture and data enablement model
  • Develop a high performing team by increasing the high-potential employee mix, ensuring solid succession planning, and maintaining long-term organizational strategic designs.
  • Facilitate in-person and written multi-disciplinary program discussions with senior business and technology leaders through a commanding grasp of business acumen and storytelling.
  • Act as the account manager to collaborate with business stakeholders to understand strategic business needs, and use that knowledge and those relationships to drive effective prioritization to deliver long-term strategic value.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, information science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms and managed services, data lakes, data Warehousing, analytics tools, data visualization, and machine learning capabilities
  • 6+ years of progressive leadership experience in leading cross-functional teams and enterprise wide programs, operating and influencing effectively across the organization and within complex context.
  • 5+ years of experience guiding and mentoring managers through the process of unlocking the talent potential and enabling a high performing team and culture.  
  • Excellent business acumen and interpersonal skills that translate into the ability to explain and “sell” data concepts and technologies to business and technology leaders.
  • Proven data literacy:
    • The ability to describe business use cases/outcomes, data sources and management concepts, and analytical approaches/options.
    • The ability to translate among the languages used by executive, business, IT and data scientist stakeholders.
  • Information strategy experience — Experience in strategic technology planning and execution, information security, and data governance
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data structures, information systems/tools, related software and data management, enterprise content management, and practices in a complex organizational environment.
  • Deep technical domain knowledge and the ability to roll up sleeves to teach and develop team members.
  • Experience in implementing customer identity resolution and customer data platforms (CDP) is highly sought after
  • Must be comfortable working in highly collaborative environments; must be able to learn new and emerging concepts very quickly.

The expected range is $160,000 - $185,000 + annual bonus + equity.  Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.
