We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Data Platform team. This position is fully remote and can be worked from anywhere within Canada.

The Data Platform Team is focused on improving (and then transforming) a suite of backend services that power our SEO product. We’re making major investments to enhance our customer experience by making these services more reliable and easier to maintain over time and you’ll lead this effort alongside senior engineers on the team.

What You'll Do
Lead a team of software engineers, who are upgrading and increasing the reliability of mission-critical services, including design, development, and deployment of observability, CI/CD, etc.
Work closely with other teams in Engineering, Customer Success, and Product to understand customer problems, research, and collaborate on technical solutions.
Be hands-on > you will need to jump on outages, contribute to architecture design meeting and facilitate implementation of solution(s) as needed.
Build and significantly grow the team. You’ll drive hiring for the team, helping us find and retain the talent we need to significantly improve our services. Lead and manage both technical leads and individual contributors, including ongoing training and development, performance evaluations, coaching, and recruiting.
Work in a highly collaborative environment to share information and improve processes among the entire department.
Required Experience
3+ years of experience leading engineers as a manager or technical lead including experience coaching and developing senior engineers.
10+ years of experience of working as software professional in various technical roles.
Proven experience increasing the reliability of existing backend services using observability, standardizing deployment, etc.
Proven experience of managing distributed systems at tens of terabytes.
Demonstrated ability to assess the current state of services and make strategic recommendations about how they should evolve. Includes management of technical debt including risks to the business.
Robust knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as Docker and Amazon Web Services (AWS), Kubernetes and how to utilize them in a CI/CD environment. Working knowledge of any public cloud offering such as Azure or GCP is sufficient too.
Working knowledge of the systems that make up modern web applications, including APIs, micro-services, distributed backend systems, and relational and non-relational databases.
Experience leading agile software development practices.
