The Moz Group Data Engineering team is looking for a Senior Data Scientist, SEO

At the core of rank tracking, a specific strategy within Search Engine Optimization (SEO), are Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs). As a Data Scientist focused on rank tracking trends and anomalies, you will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting vast amounts of search engine results data to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies that can guide our business strategies and decision-making. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Marketing, Product Engineering, and Customer Success, to provide actionable insights that enhance our data quality and our market positioning as one of the best providers of SERP data and analytics in the industry.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Utilize advanced data analytics techniques to uncover trends, patterns, and anomalies within SERPs.
-Design and implement machine learning models to predict future SERP trends and detect anomalies.
-Collaborate with stakeholders to define relevant KPIs and metrics for evaluating SERP performance and quality.
-Provide strategic recommendations to improve the quality of our SERP data and how we present SERP insights to our clients.
-Present findings and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences through reports, visualizations, and presentations.
-Work closely with the engineering team to build automated pipelines for data collection, processing, and analysis.
-Clean, preprocess, and transform our parsed SERP data into a usable format for analysis.
-Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in search engine algorithms, SEO practices, and trends in the SERPs themselves.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

-Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
-Proven experience working with large-scale data analysis and machine learning techniques.
-Proficiency in programming languages such as Python/R for data manipulation, analysis, and modeling.
-Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI) to present insights effectively.
-Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically and creatively to derive insights from complex data.
-Excellent communication skills to convey technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
-Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

-Experience specifically using AWS for large data solutions.
-Experience with web scraping and data collection from search engines and other online sources.
-Familiarity with time series modeling and forecasting.
-Curiosity or passion around popular programming languages and paradigms used in data processing and modeling.
-Publications or projects related to search engine analysis or SEO will be highly regarded.
-Strong knowledge of SEO principles, search engine algorithms, and web analytics tools.

Target Salary is $120-$160K
