The Team

The Data Analytics team plays the critical role of providing analytical support across Upstart's organization to enable data-driven decision making. We leverage our analytical and technical skills to help our partners with a multitude of services, some of which include understanding our underwriting models and presenting on trends in our loan performance, analyzing market size opportunities, creating financial models, developing our business intelligence pipeline to enable self-service reporting, and architecting/automating of work processes.

As the Lead Data Analyst, Lending Partnerships at Upstart, you will be a critical member of Upstart’s analytics team to own credit performance data analysis and reporting by developing reports and building repeatable and scalable data quality audits. Through your efforts, we will be able to ensure reporting accuracy and consistency across the company to monitor and report loan performance. You will be Upstart’s data ambassador to our lending partners. Position Location - This role is available in the following locations: Remote #LI-REMOTE

Time Zone Requirements - This team operates on the East/West Coast time zones.

Travel Requirements - Once it's safe to do so, this team will have regular on-site collaboration sessions. These occur 1 days per Month or Quarter. If you need to travel to make these meetups, Upstart will cover all travel related expenses.



How you’ll make an impact:

  • Partner with Sales, Account Management, Product, and Engineering teams to collect and analyze loan performance data, contribute to credit analytics, and deliver insights.
  • Formulate and apply analytical modeling and other optimization methods to develop and interpret business information and the key metrics that measure loan performance.
  • Own data reporting process for lender partnerships using a consistent and highly automated framework.
  • Create reports and dashboards in BI tools such as Looker. Monitor trends in relevant metrics and report on key insights on a regular basis.
  • Lead discussions with external partners to discuss expected lender performance and historical platform performance.
  • Proactively identify data quality and integrity issues that affect reporting accuracy. Run recurring data audits to ensure accuracy of data systems and business processes.
  • Work with various big data platforms, databases and systems such as AWS, Redshift and other big data technologies.
  • Participate in data modeling and architecture discussion, influence data products roadmap, and take ownership and responsibility of new projects.
  • Work closely with Engineering to ensure quick turnaround on fixes. Take ownership of communicating changes to the appropriate end-users.
  • Work with data service providers to explore APIs and forecast the impact of integrating new data sets. Work with Engineering to onboard new data sets.

 

What we’re looking for: 

  • Minimum requirements:
    • BS/MS Degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, or other highly quantitative/analytical field
    • 5+ years of professional experience in SQL querying and proven ability to work with large and complex data set
    • 5+ years of professional experience performing data analytics that influence business decision making
    • Knowledge to translate business requirements to Data Warehousing and ETL
    • Experience in data analytics tools such as Python or R, and creating financial models using tools such as Excel and Google Sheets
    • Strong communication with client-facing and executive level presentation skills
    • Experience with project management and documentation
    • Proven ability to learn quickly, work independently, and adapt to change in a fast-paced environment
    • Organized and able to juggle multiple tasks while still meeting deadlines
  • Preferred qualifications:
    • Experience with BI/reporting tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Power BI
    • Experience with project management tools such as Jira and Confluence
    • Experience in financial modeling of consumer lending products
    • Experience in consumer lending with a focus on analytics, finance, operations, product, or strategy
    • Knowledge of statistical methods and machine learning algorithms
