We're excited to be looking for a Machine Learning Manager to help us scale the impact of machine learning across Monzo.

You’ll spend your time

With other Machine Learning Scientists:

  • Supporting, coaching and developing high performing Machine Learning Scientists through regular 1:1s, continuous feedback and relationships with other leaders at Monzo;
  • Contributing to best practices: helping us become an exceptional place to work for the ambitious, highly motivated people that we hire;
  • We empower Machine Learning Scientists to work across the end-to-end lifecycle of their models, including shipping the models they train into production - you’ll be contributing to how we define and build our workflows and tooling as we scale our discipline.

Within an area of Monzo:

  • Working across interdisciplinary squads with product managers and tech leads to ensure we’re pursuing the most impactful machine learning opportunities, and tackling them with pragmatic, iterative, and high-quality systems;
  • Lead the design, build and delivery of machine learning systems across entire areas of Monzo, working at the intersection of Data Science, Product, and Engineering, and ensuring that all systems we build are safe and appropriately validated. 
  • Partnering with Senior Machine Learning Scientists and Engineers in your area to drive technical initiatives that raise the bar for our machine learning practices

You should apply if 

  • You have experience with production machine learning systems, working in roles that are often referred to as Lead Data Scientist, Lead Machine Learning Scientist, or Lead Machine Learning Engineer.
  • You’re as comfortable getting hands-on as well as taking a step back and thinking strategically and proactively identifying opportunities
  • You have experience working with and collaborating with senior business stakeholders and product teams to ship machine learning systems
  • You have experience managing 2+ high performing people who have worked on any aspect of machine learning.
  • You know what good looks like for a high-performing team and know how to get there. You care deeply about helping others achieve their goals and become the best Machine Learning Scientists they can be.
  • You have an empathetic leadership style and you build strong, effective relationships

Logistics

  • We can help you relocate to London & we can sponsor visas.
  • This role can be based in our London office or remotely within the UK

The interview process consists of a 30 minute recruiter call, a 45 minute video call, and three hours of technical, product/systems, and leadership interviews over video call. Sometimes, we arrange a follow-up interview to discuss the feedback before making a final decision.
