We're looking for a Senior Data Scientist excited to help us revolutionise the way people manage their finances - understand how our customers use Monzo, and what we can do to better meet their needs. This person will help us improve discrete experiences, amplify the value we already provide for a new set of users, or identify totally new product opportunities. At Monzo, we're building a bank that is fair, transparent and a delight to use. We’re growing extremely fast and have over five million customers in the UK. We’ve built a product that people love and more than 80% of our growth comes from word of mouth and referrals.

We have a strong culture of data-driven decision making across the whole company - and want to embed this further into User Research, using quantitative and qualitative methods to drive how we hypothesise and improve about product development, growth hacking, and ongoing customer engagement.

As part of your role, you'll:

  • Identify opportunities for improving our user experience. To do this you’ll collect and analyse behavioural, experiment and survey data and support others to do the same.
  • Build new systems that help us better understand our user experience. You’ll create data pipelines to ensure we’re leveraging the wealth of data across monzo for research purposes, and identifying the metrics that will help us measure the usability of our product. You’ll work with others to put them in place where those metrics aren’t yet captured in the right ways.
  • Identify the root causes of wider customer experience issues.  You’ll work with multi-disciplinary teams to bring together not just app data but brand insights, app reviews, satisfaction ratings and customer service data.
  • Using your view of the whole product, you’ll shine a light on the most important parts of the user experience for us to improve. To do that you’ll work with Product Managers, Product Designers, Marketeers, Engineers, Customer Operations and User Researchers and Data Scientists.

  • You have experience in conducting large scale A/B experiments
  • You’re customer oriented. You’ve analysed customer segments, discovered new opportunities, tracked goals or defined target user lists for surveys and you have an understanding of basic statistical concepts like statistical significance.
  • You bring people together. You collaborate with others to build shared understanding and prioritise actionable insights to get work on the roadmap.

Nice to haves:

  • You’ve helped companies tailor their products to different user groups by segmenting customers
  • You have experience improving customer metrics like Net Promoter Score and Customer Effort Scores

Our Process

  • Initial call with a Monzo Recruiter (30 min)
  • Initial call with a User Researcher or Data Scientist (30 min)
  • Task you can choose to take home or do as part of your “on-site” interview (30 mins)
  • Virtual "on-site" interview with 2-3 folks from User Research, Design, Data or Product teams
  • No brain teasers or trick questions!

Logistics

  • We can help you relocate to London & we can sponsor visas.
  • This role can be based in our London office or remotely within the UK
  • We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, at times that suit you and your team.
