The Yahoo Commerce team’s mission is to help our audience of 600M monthly active users discover and make informed decisions about products and services so they can save time and money. We primarily serve audiences who are in their shopping journeys across all Yahoo properties. We work directly with our partners to reach new audiences, gain new users, and drive GMV through leveraging our ecosystem of products and services.
About You
We are looking for a highly motivated Engineering Manager who will lead multiple squads responsible for significant functional aspects of the Yahoo Commerce experience. The ideal candidate has a bias for action, excels at explaining technical concepts to anyone and everyone, and is constantly interested in how the applications we build work “under the hood". You are customer focused–regardless of whether the customer is an external user or an internal team member. You can easily tie engineering objectives to business goals and deliver outcomes that move the business forward. You take pride in your team members' career growth and development and you provide continuous clear feedback. You are able to write code from time to time, although that is not a day to day part of this role.
Responsibilities
Manage a team of engineers with mixed skill sets, providing clear leadership and direction
Work closely with product, design, and other engineering teams to drive outcomes
Lead a team of engineers designing scalable, maintainable, and secure strategic solutions
Researching ML systems, models, and schemes and collaborating with your team and other teams to implement and integrate into new and existing systems
Understanding business objectives and developing ML models that help to achieve them
Developing strategies for training and retraining ML systems and models as needed
Develop team members through coaching, direct and indirect mentorship
Act as technical liaison to business teams to translate business needs to work streams and technical solutions
Lead team initiatives from start to finish by managing and improving the entire software development life cycle
Present and communicate across multiple groups to influence decisions, share knowledge, and solve organizational problems
Collect, analyze and convert data into engineering and business insights
Responsible for the success of both engineering and product led initiatives
Accurately prioritize and assign tasks according to business goals
Accountable for the performance and results of the team
Engage, attract, and retain top talent
Qualifications
B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
3+ years of experience leading or managing engineering teams
6+ years experience in software development
High proficiency with the following; distributed systems, API design & development, and ML engineering
Familiarity with a variety of frameworks like Java, Python etc
Knowledge of modern CI/CD systems and methodologies
Exposure to large-scale data processing technologies like Kafka, Spark, Oozie and Hadoop
Familiarity with popular cloud service providers and their offerings (AWS, GCP)
Understanding of large-scale web applications (clustering, scalability, caching, performance tuning)
Experience integrating LLM APIs into new or existing software applications
Interest in, or experience with, prototyping and creating production-ready applications based on generative AI
Experience with various OpenAI tools and frameworks
Strong written and verbal communication skills

The compensation for this position ranges from $143,625.00 - $299,375.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives.
