Overview & Responsibilities

We are a passionate group providing data needs for all CBS Digital Media properties. This includes CBS, CBSNews, CBS Sports, and related Sports Properties. Our team is made up of varying engineering roles including Data, Data Product and Ingestion Engineering. We are responsible for driving the CDM data strategy and best practices around data collection, pipelines, usage, and infrastructure.

The Manager Data Engineering possesses a deep sense of curiosity and a passion for building innovative products with statistical models and solid analysis. Work backward from analytical and experimental requirements to devise business solutions. Support data science and data engineering at ViacomCBSand develop creative solutions using disparate data sources.

The candidate will be expected to lead a team of engineers and data scientists to track and assure the quality of  sites, build necessary infrastructure, data pipelines, and microservices that power internal and consumer products. Work as a technical lead for our Data Insights Group and partner with our many internal clients, including site product/management/Marketing teams, to deliver insights and opportunities that grow the business.

Responsibilities

• Technical lead for strategic initiatives on data in support of Viacom Streaming groups and advocate solutions across business units
• Responsible for the day to day leadership for a Team of Engineers including mentorship and career development
• Plan and be accountable for the delivery of systems and tools that extract patterns from large data sets and transform data into an informational advantage and implement them into live systems
• Technical lead on projects that fundamentally will change how CBSi operates and committed to data quality and validity, promoting automation were warranted
• Work closely with teams' fellow directors on solving infrastructure, architecture, and framework needs
• Solid Experience with data engineering and big data platforms as well as sound software engineering principles
• Has a vision for developing creative and effective tools and platforms to help manage the business and provide executive reporting
• Build solutions to business questions and look to automate efficiently

Basic Qualifications

• At a minimum, BS degree in Statistics, Engineering, Informatics, or Computer Science degree with a demonstrated passion for data science and data engineering
• 5+ Years and strong experience in one of these components: Data Engineering, Software Development, Data Science, or Big Data Architecture
• Engineering Manager experience leading a team with engineers with various backgrounds
• Solid expertise in Python
• Experience with GCP or AWS Cloud Platform
• Experience building pipelines using Apache Airflow
• Proficiency with large-scale data in structured and unstructured environments
• Basic familiarity with Python Web and/or MVC frameworks
• Familiarity with Github or other version control systems
• Proactive and strategic thinker with strong written and verbal communication skills
• Familiar with Docker containerization
• Curious, flexible, and agile

Additional Qualifications

• Experience with data management systems, both relational and NoSQL and Cloud Systems and Architecture
• Experience with exploratory data analysis using tools like iPython Notebook, Pandas & matplotlib, etc.
• Experience with services like Google Dataflow, Google BigQuery, Pubsub, or similar
• Familiar with Apache Beam
• Familiar with Atlassian products Jira and Confluence
