This is a remote role to support the rapidly growing Happy Returns. Happy Returns is solving the #1 pain point of e-commerce: returns. We do this by providing a seamless system of technology, service, and logistics that gives shoppers the frictionless returns they want and retailers the low-cost and efficient service they require. Happy Returns operates a national network of Return Bar® locations staffed by friendly, well-trained Returnista® return specialists located in premier shopping centers, national and regional store networks, independent boutiques, and other convenient spots.

Job Description:

As the Manager of Data Science, you will lead a team of 4 Data Scientists focused on driving operational excellence as we navigate rapid growth in our business and analytical needs.

The Data Science team will lay the foundation for all things data related, supporting the growth of Happy Returns for years to come.  Scientists will be expected to work alongside current Operators, Product Managers, and Engineers to ensure existing and future data tables accommodate the needs of the business.  Collectively, the data structures which they create and operate will generates a unified set of data tables for reporting and planning.  Via this data structure, the team will effectively share insights across many departments including Sales, Warehouse Operations, Automation and HR. Predictive modeling and automation will be key to providing both accurate and timely reporting.

Reporting to the Director of Forecasting and Planning, the Manager of Data Science will

  • Collaborate with the senior operations team to prioritize projects against short-term and long-term objectives
  • Manage the development of production forecasts and plans, supply inventory models for our network of 5,000+ Return Bar® locations, warehouse velocity and customer service level analytics, and various projects focusing on understanding warehouse and employee productivity.
  • Partner with colleagues in Product Development and Engineering to ensure that future software improvements output the necessary data tables for our analytical needs.
  • Identify additional initiatives that advance the analytical capabilities of our business, and establish Happy Returns as world-class, data-driven organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline 
  • 7-10 years of work experience with a proven track record of driving insights and operational improvements through analyzing large, multi-dimensional data sets
  • Success in managing and developing a team through evolving business priorities
  • Experience with databases, creating data tables and architecting data structures
  • Experience in managing data projects from inception to delivery, in an independent manner 
  • Ability to solve complex problems and synthesizing insights into actionable solutions 
  • Fluent in SQL, Python / R or any other scripting language 
  • Advanced excel skills, including VBA experience. 
  • Familiarity with visualization tools such as Looker or Tableau 
  • Proven ability to effectively work amongst various groups while providing clarity 
  • Excitement for working in a start-up environment with high level of ambiguity and change 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to influence cross-functional teams

$96900 to $234300
