The job
We are looking for a Principal Data Engineer to be a foundational member of our engineering team.
Responsibilities
- You will help improve our cloud data architecture as we have a semi-structured cloud data lake designed for machine learning and traditional BI/reporting
- You will work cross-functionally with other business members to understand our product and industry to design, socialize, and implement proper data models
- You will manage the data catalog, lineage, and documentation
- Help our internal business users to understand and get the most value and insights from the data
- You'll define processes and build code to ensure the quality of dataLead and build reporting and data extracts through BI tools and dashboards
- You will be responsible for code reviews and having other team members review your code
- You will be an active participant in our Scrum process: refining, planning, standups, and demos. Always looking for ways to improve our processes
Skills for success
- Strong experience with automating ETL pipelines and API extraction
- Data transformation experience Amazon Database experience including AWS, DynamoDB, Glue, Athena, Sagemaker, and more
- Experience developing BI Tools through either Tableau or Looker
- Experience with project management tools such as GitLab, Splunk, Jira, and Confluence
- SQL
- Python
- Experience managing data pipelines from Credit and financial services like Transunion and Experian
- Experience with AI and Machine learning

The person in this role must be based in the United States and must be authorized to work in the US. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship. SF Bay Area candidates can choose to work from our San Francisco office (whenever we return to an office) or from home most days. If remote, you should be able to come to San Francisco 4-6 times per year.

Our Remote Policy
For now and the near-term future, we are fully remote. We do plan on returning to an office at some point (likely later in 2022), and that office will be located in San Francisco. When we do, SF-based employees will have a hybrid WFH/WFO setup. That said, most roles at the company, including this one, can be fully remote within the US, and some contractor roles may be available outside the US. Our workforce is currently spread across 8 different US states, and 3 different countries.
