Job Description:

The Principal Data Product Manager will act as the Product Owner for the Sun Life U.S. digital engagement data platform. By working collaboratively with fellow business and technology team members, you will be responsible to guide the work of two agile teams to define and implement the end state data model for the underlying data platform supporting new and enhanced digital capabilities across multiple channels – web, mobile, call center, digital marketing, etc. You will partner with designers and product managers to understand the client needs and corresponding data requirements. You will work daily with data and application engineers to bring data solutions from concept to delivery. The ideal candidate is well versed in data, an experienced product owner leading a successful data platform, and is passionate about Sun Life’s mission of helping clients achieve lifetime financial security and live healthier lives.

We will expect you to:

  • Act as the Product Owner maximizing value delivery for the company’s digital engagement data platform

  • Create, own and socialize the digital engagement data platform roadmap and ensure buy-in across the organization

  • Lead scoping, requirements and specification sessions and participate in design/solution reviews with technology leaders and agile teams

  • Lead a team of engineers through SAFe and Agile ceremonies including PI planning, iterative backlog grooming/refinement, planning, development, acceptance and continuous integration /deployment

  • Author product briefs and user stories, conduct acceptance testing, create detailed release notes and product documentation, and educate the organization on data platform capabilities

  • As necessary, work in conjunction with the technical support team to triage and assess production issues, perform impact analysis, and provide support to the engineering team to bring issues to resolution

  • Work with client success and analytics teams to make platform operational data available to the organization for business intelligence needs – dashboards, KPIs, extracts, ad hoc analyses

  • Gather stakeholder and technology teams’ feedback to continually improve the capabilities and quality of the data platform

  • Explore and identify opportunities to share data insights with external clients and brokers

  • Be flexible and able to take on and master new topic areas quickly, run with project assignments independently

  • Be a team player with a strong work ethic and a desire to succeed

Qualifications

  • Proven experience with 7+ years as a data engineer, data modeler, product owner or a similar role in software development Bachelor's or Master’s degree in business management or technical field is preferred

  • Well versed in data modeling and transformation with an ability to query, manipulate, and analyze data

  • An experienced agile development practitioner whereby using tools such as Jira and Confluence to create user stories and author product documentation is second nature

  • Demonstrated project management and leadership skills

  • Collaborative and influential in your approach, appropriately engaging team members to accomplish your objectives

  • Flexible to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment in a professional and timely manner

  • Excellent verbal, presentation, interpersonal, and written communication skills

  • Benefits/HR technology or insurance experience is a plus, but not required

  • Experience with Domain Driven Design is extremely helpful

If you are a California resident, the salary range for this position is:

Southern region: $ 123,900 - $185,900 annually    
-
Central region: $130,600 - $195,900 annually   
-
Northern region: $139,700 - $209,600 annually    
 
If you are a Colorado resident, the salary range for this position is $118,200 - $177,300 annually. 
  
If you are a New York resident, the salary range for this position is $139,700 - $209,600 annually.  
 
If you are Washington resident, the salary range for this position is $130,600 - $195,900  annually.
