About our Team:

We are looking for an experienced data professional to help us grow and build a best in-class business intelligence platform with Looker.

As a senior individual contributor you will help scale our BI platform which supports data-driven decision making across the whole of Monzo. Our goal is to build a flawless experience - one that is performant, curated and delightful.

You will work as part of a team and partner with other teams in the business to improve standards, automate tasks, tune performance and much more.

At the core of this mission sits our data platform. We're great believers in powerful, real-time analytics and empowerment of the wider business. Every engineer at Monzo is responsible for collection of relevant analytics events from their microservices. We optimise for simplicity and re-usability – all our data lives in one place and is made available via our data warehouse in Google BigQuery. 90% of day-to-day data-driven decisions are covered by self-serve analytics through Looker which gives data scientists the head space to focus on more impactful business questions and analyses.

What you’ll be working on

  • Develop curated, performant and high quality data products
  • Define key problem statements and ideate solutions
  • Effectively scale serve analytics at Monzo by tuning performance and queries, building tooling, automating repetitive tasks, improving our information architecture and more
  • Define best practices in Looker and across the broader data stack for example: explore design, LookML standards, data modelling, dashboard design, user administration and more
  • Educate on and enable best practices for how we organise and structure content, develop explores and visualise data and more
  • Enable and empower developers, analysts and leaders across the company to make better decisions with data

You should apply if:

  • You can point to a solid track record as a Looker developer and analyst
  • You enjoy defining problem statements and proposing solutions
  • You are comfortable planning and leading projects
  • You have excellent SQL and data modelling skills
  • You are a self-starter - you take initiative in spotting opportunities and finding ways to solve challenges
  • You are used to communicating technical work to non-technical people
  • You can demonstrate how you’ve automated repetitive tasks

Nice to haves

  • You have experience as a Looker administrator
  • You have experience with scripting languages like Python
  • You have experience working with orchestration frameworks like Airflow and Luigi
  • You have previously used dbt, dataform or similar tooling.
  • You have worked following AGILE frameworks like Kanban or Scrum

The Interview Process:

Our interview process involves 3 main stages: 

  • First stage 
  • Take home task
  • Final
