Reporting to the Director of Business Intelligence, the Senior Business Intelligence Engineer plays an important role as a supporting member of the Enterprise Data & Analytics Team and the broader employee base of PointClickCare. Customer service and a positive, supportive personality are essential to the success of this role.

The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer will be responsible for aiding the process of defining and developing the system requirements of our internal business customers. The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer is an engineer who is responsible for developing, deploying, and maintaining BI interfaces. Those include query tools, data visualization and interactive dashboards, ad hoc reporting, ETL, data extraction, data integration and data modeling tools. The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer will also lead the development of training material and providing training on the systems and processes developed by the Enterprise Data & Analytics Group. The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer will also play a key role in the support and documentation of existing Enterprise Data & Analytics systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborating with end users responsible for identifying business needs, translating those into analytics/reporting requirements and solutions.
• Designs prototypes, codes and tests new data visualizations and data extracts, data transformations, data integration methods (data pipelines, event hubs, data streaming, etc) or enhanced SQL queries
• Designing and developing enterprise-wide data analysis and reporting solutions 
• Reviewing and analyzing data from multiple internal and external sources.
• Communicating analysis results and making recommendations to senior management
• Developing data cleansing rules for the company
• Developing new BI services offerings, content creation and value propositions
• Performs customer support processes and activities for the implementation of new or existing Reporting and Analytic applications.
• Monitors the efficiency and effectiveness of application operations and troubleshoots problems, as necessary
• Preliminary research and investigation of software and evaluating new products and services to judge their suitability for use
• Guiding process design and implementation in departments external to Business Intelligence group
• Improving and streamlining processes regarding data flow and data quality to improve data accuracy, viability and value.
• Staying current with industry trends for Business Intelligence
• Designing/Developing/Building Visualizations, Reports & Dashboards
• Writing relational and multidimensional database queries.
• Administration of scheduled tasks.
• Creating and deploying reports.
• Supporting the existing Enterprise Data & Analytics environment by providing support for troubleshooting data load, ETL, reporting and data visualization related issues. Debugging, monitoring and troubleshooting BI solutions.

Required Experience

• University degree or College diploma
• Workflow design and implementation
• Scripting experience

• Experience composing project documentation (e.g., high level use cases, detailed business specifications)

• Advanced level of writing stored procedures, reading execution plans, tuning indexes and troubleshooting performance bottlenecks

• Expert experience in Report Development, Data Visualization, ETL and Data Integration, Data Pipelines, Data Profiling, Data Modeling
• Experience with coding languages (Python, C++, Java, Kafka, Splunk, Scala, C#) & integration toolsets (Apache Spark, Talend, Microsoft, Informatica, IBM, Mulesoft)
• Experience coding ETLs using various packages/connectors to databases and endpoints (or Java)
• Experience working with sourcing and feeding data from REST APIs is nice to have
• 5+ years of experience with SQL Server Integration Service (SSIS), SSMS & Visual Studio, Azure ADF and Azure Functions.  
• 5+ years of experience with relational databases (e.g. Azure Synapse, SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, DB2, etc.)
• 5+ years of experience in MS Power BI, Tableau, MicroStrategy, or extended experience with a similar BI platform
• Working experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience with data pipeline automation using a code focused scheduling tool (e.g. Azure DevOPS)
• Exposure to Kubernetes, docker, and streaming tools (Kafka)
• 3+ years of experience working with ERP solutions (preferably NetSuite) & Salesforce
