StreetLight Data is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to be part of our growing Services team. As a Senior Data Engineer you will take over ownership of our most massive and complex analytics processes. You will work with our most cutting-edge customers and gain a deep understanding of their unique needs. You will leverage your deep knowledge of SQL programming to explore StreetLight's massive repository of transportation data and develop efficient queries to get the answers customers need. This position reports to the Director of Services Engineering.

 

Location: We are flexible on the location of this position - it could be in any one of our three offices (San Francisco, CA, Richmond, VA, or Vancouver, BC) - or remote within the US or Canada.

·        Develop efficient algorithms for massive analytics, using a deep understanding of the raw data

·        Help design and build the execution platform for custom analytics

·        Work with Product Management and Application teams to productize data analytics algorithms into the StreetLight InSight web application

·        Contribute to data science projects as appropriate.

·        Design algorithms to infer key transportation patterns from various data sources, both StreetLight’s own data and metrics as well as third party data.

·        As part of a rapidly growing team at StreetLight, identify opportunities for process improvements.

·        BS / MS in Computer Science, Mathematics, or an Engineering discipline from a top university

·        5+ years' experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and SQL, including strong understanding of concepts

·        5+ years' experience in UNIX/Linux shell scripting

·        Knowledge of geospatial data and statistics is a plus

·        Knowledge of transportation data / industry is a plus. This includes working in a transportation-focused role within government, consulting, private-sector mobility, or a non-profit.

·        Good communication skills - written, visual (presentations, charts, maps), and verbal
