Our mission at Curai is to make high-quality healthcare accessible to all. We are fulfilling this audacious mission by building a virtual-first primary care service. Blending high-touch clinical care augmented with artificial intelligence, we are building a scalable primary care model that provides patients with quality care anytime, anywhere, from their mobile phones at a very affordable price.

Our company is remote-first and we consider candidates across the United States.

Machine Learning Engineering at Curai
We are looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join our Machine Learning team. This team designs, develops, and continuously improves the automation technology at the core of Curai’s strategy to democratize access to the best healthcare for everyone.

Curai’s ML engineers are dedicated to changing how healthcare is delivered. They work in partnership with product owners, engineers, clinicians, and researchers to deliver automated products for doctors and patients. A successful candidate will own and help engineer end-to-end, AI/ML-powered automated systems in service of better health outcomes at lower costs.

We have access to pseudonymized data from our practice but also leverage in-house clinician annotators and external data. We develop and evaluate models with Jupyter notebooks, PyTorch, Weights & Biases, and in-house patient simulators for offline evaluation.  Our production stack is AWS-based, with infrastructure managed by Terraform, and data and task pipelines orchestrated via Dagster.

Who You Are: None of these individually are hard requirements, but they do describe the type of folks that we think would be most effective and happy at Curai. You…

    • Are a self-starter and have a growth mindset.
    • Enjoy tackling complex problems in a scientific and data-driven way.
    • Thrive in ambiguity and love tackling complex problems that span multiple systems
    • Enjoy thinking through trade-offs with mindfulness of near-term needs and Curai’s long-term strategy.
    • Are collaborative and appreciate working with people with diverse expertise.

What You’ll Do: A day in the life of a Curai Machine Learning Engineer is spent doing things like:

    • Designing, building, deploying, and improving robust machine learning models for the patient and physician-facing product features in collaboration with our clinical innovation, research, engineering, and design teams.
    • Designing offline and online experiments to test ML product features, and performing data-driven analysis of the results to find actionable insights.
    • Providing input and collaborating closely with the ML Infrastructure team towards the development of technical platforms that power ML systems at Curai, and its ML engineering infrastructure and operations.
    • Enabling rapid and rigorous scientific innovation by a multidisciplinary team of Curai clinicians, engineers, and researchers, through platform, tools, and documentation.
    • Mentoring ML engineering interns and team members.
    • Interviewing diverse talent to build and grow a strong ML engineering team.

What You’ll Need: We recognize not everyone will have all of these requirements. If you meet most of the criteria below and you’re excited about the opportunity and willing to learn, we’d love to hear from you. You should have:

    • “End-to-end” experience building ML production systems. Along with strong ML fundamentals, you will need expertise in the entire lifecycle of machine learning production systems, such as data processing, modeling, deployment, monitoring, maintenance, and improving the models over time using feedback loops.
    • "Product sense" or intuition on what to build. You will need to be able to translate product intuition into data-driven hypotheses that result in impactful machine learning/engineering solutions.
    • Experience and/or interest in mentoring junior engineers.
    • Strong communication skills. This role involves collaboration with product, engineering, clinical, and research teams. Understanding the mental models of the audience and communicating ideas crisply to this diverse set of stakeholders will be a vital part of the role. You should be comfortable leading cross-functional machine learning product initiatives, from conception to successful product outcomes.
What We Offer
Culture: Mission driven talent with great colleagues committed to living our values, collaborating and driving performance
Pay: Competitive compensation and stock
Wellness: Unlimited PTO, flexible working hours and remote working options
Benefits: Excellent medical, dental, vision, flex spending plans, and paid parental leave
