About the role:

We are seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to help build out our Data team and help drive the establishment of data-driven culture from the ground up. This role reports to our Director of Data Platform and Integration, and will also partner with our Principal Data Engineer overseeing platform, integration, analytics, and data science. As a senior individual contributor role, you’ll be responsible both for mentorship and technical leadership of other engineers within the team, as well as defining, implementing, and executing against our engineering strategy - creating processes, and resolving ambiguity at the highest levels, working with senior engineering peers and business leadership, to match a defined business strategy with technical plans and implementation. You will also be expected to be highly autonomous, biased-to-action, able to build relationships across engineering teams, and experienced with reducing ambiguity and creating clarity for others on the team.

Responsibilities include:

·       Define cross-team data architecture, with a focus on enabling core/foundational business intelligence and data science use cases
·       Provide leadership and technical expertise within the Data Platform and Integration teams.  Be a mentor and role model for other engineers within the Data organization.
·       Remain current on technology and trends in data engineering, and the modern data and analytics stack
·       Set a high standard for engineering excellence through example
·       Contribute to hiring and training other engineering team members
·       Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, inside and outside of Engineering, and collaborate with leaders to gather and present testing metrics and activities.

Skills that are important to us:

·       Strong technical skills, both functional and non-functional, in a continuous delivery environment
·       Demonstrated ability to partner closely with product managers, analysts, data scientists, peer engineering teams, and more
·       Ability to advise and earn trust of partners and engineering leadership
·       Experience in large-scale cloud databases
·       Experience in Experimentation, A/B Testing, Optimization
·       Ability to deliver service and data integrations between different teams and 3rd parties
·       Experience with multiple (not necessarily all) aspects of the modern data and analytics tech stack and concepts (i.e. data warehousing, data lake, data orchestration, analytics engineering, machine learning engineering, real-time stream processing or pub/sub, etc.)
·       Fluent in one or more common languages used by data practitioners (e.g. Python, Java, Spark, Flink, R, SQL, etc.), to build systems and architecture (not just individual pipelines)
·       Positive and flexible attitude to work in a fast-paced environment and a willingness to embrace new initiatives, in a well-capitalized pre-launch startup-within-an-established company
·       Strong communication skills with the ability to represent complex topics in a succinct way
