The role

SoFi runs on data! In this role you will be contributing to the long-term success of SoFi’s big data vision by building out distributed systems and scalable data platforms. The Data Platform and Infrastructure Group supports data use cases across all of SoFi’s diverse business units by providing a highly scalable, democratized data platform empowering teams to ingest, model, and consume data with confidence. Join the Data Platform & Infrastructure team as it refines this vision and establishes industry-leading standards for data quality lifecycle management ushering in best-in-class architectural components and processes for extracting value from data. As the Senior Engineering Manager of the rapidly growing Data Reliability and Infrastructure team, your leadership will be instrumental in setting the direction and contributing to design of the platform. You will partner with engineering teams across the company to ensure the quality and availability of data. Additionally, you will coordinate across multiple engineering squads to drive adoption and alignment with the SoFi’s long term data strategy. Leveraging your experience and deep technical knowledge, you will provide leadership in evolving testing and deployment strategies. You will mentor fellow team members and collaborate with the team manager in sponsoring career development. You will be relied on to represent the team when recruiting and hiring new members. 

What you’ll do:

• Manage a team of Engineers with a focus on improving our data reliability, governance, quality and infrastructure.
• Drive alignment on roadmap decisions, team process and technical vision.
• Conduct yearly and quarterly planning establishing both strategic and tactical goals .
• Create clear and well thought out technical design with careful considerations on system dependencies, failure states, maintainability, testability and ease of support.
• Lead requirement analysis and design discussions with users, technical and business stakeholders and monitor all agile ceremonies with teams.
• Build tools to improve developer productivity and reliability of data pipelines.
• Monitor and understand the key metrics governing your product area, with an eye toward continuously improving them through ongoing product innovation.
• Work cross-functionally with various engineering and analytics teams to identify and execute on new opportunities in data infrastructure
• Define and monitor metrics on the performance, quality, and cloud cost optimization of your team’s data systems.
• Hire and develop a diverse team of software engineers 
• Coach team members through career and skill development
• Apply software engineering best practices (version control, continuous integration, etc) spanning the entire data platform code base.
• Collaborate with security and infrastructure teams on cross-org initiatives
• Build cross-functional rapport with other leaders in SoFi engineering and prod organizations for help navigating through dependencies, risk mitigation or triaging issues to resolution.

What you’ll need:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field
• 6+ years of Software Engineering experience
• 3+ years of management experience
• Deep programming experience, ideally on a modern web stack.
• Experience managing multiple teams of engineers, and coaching and growing leaders
• Solid understanding of relational databases (MySQL or Postgres)
• Experience working in a collaborative coding environment, refining designs together, working through code reviews and managing pull requests
• Passion and expertise for tools and technology
• Affinity for solving problems and shipping impactful features, not polishing perfect code or architecture
