We are looking to add a highly motivated VP, Data to lead our efforts in scaling data in our organization. The VP, Data will be the key contributor to the strategy and vision for the data team and will build the roadmap for the architecture, systems and tools required to have a best-in-class data ecosystem.  One of our principles is that we cherish the privacy of our customers. The ideal candidate will have experience mentoring and developing a strong team and will be able to quickly establish credibility. They are a self-starter who is comfortable in a rapidly changing environment and takes a proactive and strategic approach to building solutions. They will have the ability to bridge short term goals with longer term strategy and communicate it to a wide audience.

This is a Remote opportunity within Canada and United States.

What we're looking for:

    • 10+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Analytics, Data Science, Business Intelligence or other quantitative disciplines, especially during company growth stages, in a cross-functional role.
    • 5+ years of management experience growing and leading data science teams; proven record of building and motivating successful teams.
    • Experience working with Cloud Technologies (eg: AWS), and data warehousing solutions.
    • Experience building teams that manipulate data, or automate data pipelines in various languages. 
    • Strong communication skills evidenced by having an uncanny ability to take complex and technical concepts and present them in a clear and consumable format to a wider and senior audience; Excellent at being able to communicate complex analysis and insights to highly disparate audiences with varying technical depth
    • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills that have been proven by managing big, complex, cross-functional initiatives.
    • Deep experience developing successful analytics-based solutions to complex, cross-functional business problems
    • Exceptional critical thinking and attention to detail; Highly conscientious, sweats the data details
    • Loves and embraces change and can influence a variety of teams to embrace that change

Bonus points for:

    • Experience writing scripts to manipulate data or automate data pipelines using R, Python, Ruby, Java, or similar. 
    • Experience with data analysis/visualization business intelligence tools (eg: Looker, Tableau, SQL)
    • Experience in data transformation initiatives, statistical and experimental design, predictive modeling, machine learning applications, architecture, and software development
    • Strong software standards and engineering practices working within a shared codebase
    • Advanced degree in a quantitative field preferred (eg: engineer, mathematics, economics, computer science, physics, operations research, statistics, data science, data mining)

What you can expect:

    • Build a high performing, scalable organization in an ambiguous and fast paced environment. This includes hiring, onboarding, mentoring, developing and coaching of existing and new team members and managers.
    • Define the vision for data science, machine learning, and data engineering across the company. 
    • Execute the adoption, building, and integration of best-in-class technologies to facilitate efficient analysis and reporting across various business groups.
    • Work closely with business analysts to build self-service experiences in our business intelligence platform. 
    • Partner with senior business and technology leaders to develop data-driven business strategies
    • Work closely with Engineering and Infrastructure teams to define the overall data ecosystem for data warehouse and analytics platforms.
    • Build a team that creates value from the data ecosystem in general. 
    • Drive prioritization, focus and execution in Data related projects. 
    • Uphold the company's strong privacy and security values/policies for use and access to data.
