About the role

StockX’s teams, projects, products, programs, and use cases are growing as our business scales. Our mission requires buyers and sellers to be able to quickly, easily transact on the platform while trusting their goods are authentic and their personal information is secure. We are looking for an experienced Software Engineering Leader to join us on this mission as our VP of Software Engineering. You will report directly to StockX’s Chief Technology Officer and become part of the Technology Executive Team.

The successful candidate will be a visionary thinker, be able to bridge business impact to technology, capable of leading a large, sophisticated global technology platform and interacting with the most senior levels of management. Given the emphasis on talent development, the candidate will also have a passion for managing and developing people. The candidate will possess a high degree of business acumen and must have a “real world” perspective in order to effectively interact with the operating leaders across the company.

This role spans various supply- and demand-side core charters including Data, Artificial Intelligence, Sell Power Tools, Supply Chain, Order Management, and the Data & AI/ML Platform. Experience in refactoring and decomposing a monolithic codebase coherently over a multi-year journey is a must. You will be expected to dive deep into assumptions and guide your team through the software architecture across the full stack. Ability to deal with ambiguity and complexity of the problem scope is required. You will also be adept at making business and engineering tradeoffs on when/where to refactor, and align it with the business’ needs and customer experience.  Eventually, your impact should be felt at the company level itself in enabling revenue growth and cost optimization through technology.

What you'll do

  • Lead Engineering for the StockX team including core services, sell-side, and operational domains like Sell Power Tools, Supply Chain, Order Management. This role will also support the Data & AI/ML Platforms
  • Establish and maintain the enterprise vision, strategy, and program to decompose the architecture for core services including the order state machine, matcher, Bid & Ask model, and ancillary services such as addresses, market data, and more.
  • Drive implementation and execution of major initiatives, setting expectations with business stakeholders from all functional areas including marketing, legal, finance, operations, customer service, account management, fraud support, and others.
  • Make risk-based, business-oriented decisions to ensure roadmap execution and infrastructure stability, especially during high-risk times such as the holiday season.
  • Be a trusted adviser for StockX’s executive team on a broad range of topics related to Software Architecture. 
  • Build partnerships with peers across Product Development, Compliance, Finance, Legal, Privacy, IT, InfoSec and others to develop a deep understanding of the StockX business and customer problems so that we can efficiently accomplish joint projects. 
  • Be a security thought leader in the Cloud and SaaS space, and aid in the design of systems, which lead with privacy and security in mind.

About you

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills, including the ability to communicate security, and risk-related concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Technical Qualifications

  • Industry experience in eCommerce marketplaces (Sr. Director or above), preferably two-sided managed marketplaces. Hands-on experience gained from building ecommerce experiences or backend services as an individual contributor is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience owning architecture decisions and communicating with the broader organizations on the investments needed & business value of those investments
  • Demonstrated experience building and growing teams including coaching and managing performance at an executive level
  • Experience in working with vendor software and decision points on build vs buy balancing risk and time to market
