Underdog has quickly established itself as a leader in the space, and is committed to building the best sports gaming platform in the industry -- and **supporting the most passionate community of sports fans while doing it!

At Underdog, we’re not only about creating these awesome products, but also about growing our culture of passion, ownership, and fun! We believe that great companies are made out of great people. Our continual aim is to create an inclusive environment for everyone, at all levels, to achieve their highest potential at work.

Underdog is in a critical phase of growth. We almost tripled the company’s size over the last eighteen months and are preparing to launch the most ambitious product in our history. As Vice President, Data, you will work directly with our executive team to shape and execute our data strategy and drive data-driven decision making to accelerate our growth in becoming the largest sports gaming company in the world.

We are looking for someone with deep experience at high-growth consumer software companies to lead our data org, including Data Science, Data Engineering, and Analytics. This is a key leadership role where you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to unlock the full potential of our data assets and drive business growth.

Please note, Underdog is a US based company and no sponsorship is available for this position at this time.

What you’ll do:

  • Build and lead a world-class data organization, providing mentorship, guidance, and career development opportunities.
  • Develop and execute the overall strategy, architecture, and execution of our data org, ensuring alignment with the company's strategic goals and product roadmap.
  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable data infrastructure, including data storage, processing, and integration systems.
  • Drive the development and implementation of advanced analytics and machine learning models to derive actionable insights and predictive capabilities.
  • Deeply understand the data needs of our Product, Marketing, Finance, and Operations orgs; collaborate closely to identify and prioritize opportunities to use data to improve business outcomes.
  • Foster a data-driven culture, ensuring data accessibility, literacy, and utilization across the organization.
  • Guide investigation and integration of ML/AI technologies and solutions across our business.
  • Be part of a 10X path by helping us go from a 9-figure to 10-figure revenue company over the next few years.
  • Act as a sounding board and trusted advisor to our executive team and department leads, providing strategic guidance and constructive feedback. You’ll have unique access to many of the most important decisions being made at the company.
  • Solve complex, often cross-functional problems, helping leaders tackle critical decisions with data, often within their most at-risk and highest leverage projects.

Who you are:

  • 5+ years of experience running data organizations managing managers and directors and with a proven track record of driving data-driven decision making at a consumer software company.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in analytics or data science.
  • Experience at a high-growth consumer software company, with meaningful experience in product analytics.
  • Expertise in SQL, Python or R, modern data visualization tools (Looker/Sigma), and other data tools. BigQuery and GCP experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing the entire core data tech stack, from data ingestion and storage to processing and analysis.
  • Structured thinker with impeccable business judgment and deep understanding of business drivers. Ability to execute with conviction with limited guidance.
  • Energized by tackling complex, challenging, often ambiguous problems; not afraid to roll up your sleeves and drive stakeholders to find solutions.
  • Execution mentality and a bias for action. Enthusiasm for finding creative solutions to difficult problems and resolving potential roadblocks autonomously.
  • Exceptional ability to draw key insights and drive business decisions from diverse datasets (quantitative and qualitative; financial, operational, and competitive).
  • Polished, executive-level communication skills - verbal, written, and presentation - with the ability to synthesize strategic insights in an actionable and compelling manner.

Even better if you have…

  • A passion for sports
  • Managed and scaled a data org of over 20 team members to 50+
  • Product analytics experience at a large consumer software company
  • Masters in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Sciences, or Engineering) preferred
