This Role
VP of Engineering, Data is a new role for the company and an opportunity to take ownership of our Data Engineering and Machine Learning teams. You will define the strategy and set the plan for future growth and scalable operations as the company continues to expand its client portfolio, product offerings, and its continued investment in Data. Our VP of Engineering will report to the CTO and serve as a member of Simplebet’s Senior Leadership Team. The role will partner closely with Software Engineering, Product, and Analytics functions, as well as work with new and existing customers to ensure our products’ effectiveness and alignment with their business goals. This is a highly strategic, technical role in which you will align and inspire your organization by effectively communicating the data strategy and drive the teams to build leading technical solutions.
Featured Responsibilities
- As a new VP, you will inherit two highly skilled, effective teams, examine the current structure and make recommendations on how to make it more scalable. You will be expected to own and drive the company’s data strategy going forward.
- Work closely with the Product team to align your data strategy with the product roadmap while successfully coordinating with cross-functional stakeholders and constantly assessing business requirements and priorities.
- Continue to grow and retain a high-performing team of effective and diverse Data Engineers, Data Scientists, ML Engineers, and ML Ops Engineers with the ability to deliver advanced, industry leading solutions.
- Own existing data tools and systems, and recommend improvements/develop new solutions that are innovative and scalable.
- Build deep relationships and create strategic alliances to establish trust with key stakeholders across functional teams to accelerate delivery of data roadmap.
- Establish and maintain transparent processes to gather, assess and prioritize functional needs from all data stakeholders.
Requirements
- 10+ years experience in technical leadership and people management and a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a technical or a quantitative field.
- 10+ years of experience with data science, analyst, and data engineering.
- In addition to strategy management, you will maintain technical ownership; therefore deep understanding of complex data operations, best in class tools and practices, and prior hands-on engineering experience are required.
- You have experience in designing, building and deploying secure, scalable data products & services available in production.
- Proven ability to describe business use cases/outcomes, data sources and management concepts, and analytical approaches/options as enabled by your data strategy.
- Prior experience successfully managing and coaching Data Engineering and/or Machine Learning teams and their respective leaders.
- Experience serving in a leadership capacity, working alongside other senior stakeholders, and being directly involved in strategy-setting and decision-making.
- Proven track record working with leading data, machine learning platforms and cloud technologies.
- Skilled at building highly scalable data pipelines.
- Prior experience working in an entrepreneurial environment in the technology space is preferred.
- Passion for and/or prior experience working in the sports industry is a big plus, although direct experience with sports betting is not required.
