Job Summary:
Data Discovery and Decision Science (D3) is the research, analytics, and data management organization at Allstate. We are solving some of today’s most complicated analytics problems, making the lives of our Allstate colleagues easier and more productive, and driving our mission to deliver critical protection solutions to our customers. Led by Allstate’s Chief Data Officer, the Data Strategy team is the foundation for data-driven decision making at Allstate. We are avid about exploring new ways to grow our organization’s capabilities that evolves with the data needs required to deliver solutions for our enterprise business priorities.
D3’s Data Science team supporting Claims is a key business partner who works closely with leaders and end-users to develop AI (Artificial Intelligence) solutions. We leverage data, technology, analytic capabilities, and business relationships to develop solutions to drive outstanding quality, effortless customer service and operational excellence. We are equally passionate about how our solutions benefit Allstate customers and claim professionals. We find top talent from various quantitative disciplines to collaborate with technical and non-technical people to create innovative products using data science, artificial intelligence, and industry insights.
We have been expanding our data engineering team and are looking for a senior manager to lead this growing team. This team has front line leaders in place that manage the day-to-day work of the team. This senior manager will come in to have a more strategic role. In this role, you will partner with data science and technology leaders to translate strategy into a data engineering roadmap for your team.
Key Responsibilities:
This role is critical for the success of our Claims Data Science work and has 4 key responsibilities:
1. Grow and mentor your data engineering team
- Work with your team to continue finding the right data engineering talent to make your team successful.
2. Build Roadmap - Work with the 7 Claims data science teams
- A key responsibility of the data engineering team is building automated data pipelines for the data scientists to build models. Given the considerable number of teams you will support, it is important to prioritize where your team will focus. Building this roadmap will require working closely with the leaders of the 7 data science teams and understanding their needs. This will be critical for success.
3. Influence Change - Work with technology partners to ensure the proper data is available for your team and the data scientists.
- Claims systems are maintained by several technology teams. This role will build a strong working relationship with technology to influence their data priorities. This could include influencing something as small as fixing an unintended mistake in how data is collected/stored in a database. However, it will also include influencing the architecture of core claims systems to allow for the proper data to be accessible by data science models in production.
4. Future Data Needs
- Proactively, creatively, and innovatively identify new data assets that could accelerate business partner needs. In partnership with the data science leaders, build test plans to determine the value of the new data assets. Integrate valuable data into existing pipelines for broad use.

This job has supervisory duties and you will be expected to build, inspire, and manage a team of innovative, technical people.

Compensation offered for this role is $120,000.00-$176,000.00 per year and is based on experience and qualifications.
