Why This Role Is Important To Arcadia

Arcadia’s Office of Data Science supports Arcadia and our customers through development of new and powerful tools based on advanced and predictive analytics. These tools are intended to provide novel approaches to solving problems that are too complex or too onerous to manage through existing technology, but too important to leave inadequately addressed.

Our objective is not just to create tools but to also offer direction on how predictive analytics can and should be used, in a way that both supports our customers’ business objectives and directly promotes the health and dignity of the patients whose data are in our care.

As a Data Scientist, you are central the success of the mission of the Data Science team. Our Data Scientists have a broad range of responsibilities that both support the continuing growth of our team’s portfolio as well as their own growth as scientists and as professionals. Our expanding set of programs require thoughtful individuals who not only embrace the critical value of effective data analytics but also the value of scientific rigour around their development.

What Success Looks Like
In 3 months
You’ve been with Arcadia for three months and the “firehose” is starting to let up a bit. Fortunately, you’ve had some time to familiarize yourself with Arcadia’s data tools and capabilities. You’ve developed an understanding of the Arcadia’s standard data model and can now generate data extracts for your own experiments and testing. That involved a number of different directed efforts, many of which had unexpected results. By reviewing those results with your colleagues on the Data Science Team, your understanding of the data relationships has improved, and you’ve also become more comfortable and adapt to communicating and collaborating with the Data Science Team. Under the direction of the team lead, and by applying appropriate literature review and modeling techniques, you’ve developed an initial product prototype ready for validation by and review with the Data Science Team.

In 6 months
You’ve been with Arcadia for six months and have become much more familiar with the various teams and structures at Arcadia, allowing you far more independence in seeking advice and consulting on projects. You’ve assisted your colleagues on the Data Science team with a couple analyses and have been asked for your thoughts on some new ideas in development. You have also advanced one of your own initial designs to the stage where it should be ready for high-level review with the Product Team. You’ve been preparing a presentation and talking points with your colleagues in anticipation of that review. You’ve also become more familiar with Arcadia’s complete product and tool suite, which helps you prepare to place you work in the context of the full product suite and has allowed you to have substantive conversations with your team about how your expertise can improve on Arcadia offerings, products, and operations.

In 12 months
You’ve been with Arcadia for twelve months and have become far more confident in self-driven research and development. Under the direction of the team lead, you are taking on projects ranging from small updates to complete start-to-finish development. You productively collaborate with Arcadians in new development and responding to existing issues. You are beginning to take on relationships with customers who make use of Data Science products/offerings, with the ability to respond both to requests for support as well as refinement of enhancements to existing products. You are also in the midst of the release process for an offering that you substantially developed yourself, including working with your colleagues to develop user and technical documentation, sales and marketing materials, and internal implementation guidelines, and are having strategic discussions with the Product leadership about what you would like to create in the next twelve months.
