Job Title:                  Director of Data Science

Reports to:               VP, Product

Location:                  Remote, US

 

Opportunity

Anaconda is looking for a talented Director of Data Science to join the team.  The Director of Data Science is responsible for the company’s data sciences capability by envisioning and executing strategies that will influence improvement of the business's performance by enabling informed decision making.  This role will mentor others and will focus on highly leveraged strategic work.

Profile Overview

The successful candidate will lead our efforts to better understand the data science and machine learning community. They should not only be familiar with the tools and research of these fields, but also stay up to date with practitioner pain points and challenges. He/ She can communicate complex ideas clearly to technical and non-technical audiences alike. You have a passion for data science and continually research and evaluate emerging technologies. You stay current on published state-of-the-art algorithms and models.

You have a successful track record of prototyping, implementing, and maintaining data science solutions in a company setting. With your business acumen, you can understand how to make tradeoffs and partner effectively to drive impactful business outcomes. He/she will embody Anaconda’s culture and be passionate about their mission.

 

Responsibilities

  • Apply data science to our offerings and data about the data science community 
  • Own innovation initiatives focused on key data science deliverables. Drive innovation and research working effectively with cross functional teams and drive data science thought leadership in research initiatives
  • Identify and monitor and research new ways of using data to solve business problems
  • Develop new analytic innovations and be able to present them to stakeholders in a compelling way, demonstrating value and differentiation, and drive the impact of our products and services
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for all things data science, bring expertise to our users offering more visibility to the analytic innovations and process behind innovation, including speaking engagements, collateral development, and presentations
  • Be a trusted advisor on use of data science technologies and listen to stakeholders’ challenges to drive Anaconda’s innovation forward
  • Meet development and deployment timelines for data science deliverables
  • Tracks the fields of data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and deep learning—staying abreast of current trends and makes recommendations how these advancements might be leveraged within Anaconda. 

 

Experience/Skills Required/Character

  • Embodies Anaconda’s core values, Ability & Humility, Innovation & Action and Empathy & Connection
  • Degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, economics, or related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience.
  • Technical hands-on experience will include employing machine learning, mathematical/statistical modeling,  pattern recognition, or data mining on real world problems and knowledge of python for analytic innovations integration into production software
  • Familiar with Anaconda Distribution and the pydata ecosystem
  • Prior experience (partnering with internal cross functional teams like product management, marketing, sales) driving high quality/on-time analytic development programs and driving analytic innovation into business processes and offerings.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal with examples of published work and conference presentations
