Responsibilities

Lead Data Stewards are the most knowledgeable data users in Ascension within a data domain or subdomain and can represent business interests and usage of data within their domain. A Lead Data Steward will represent and organize a collective of Data Stewards across Ascension within their data domain or subdomain. They will define authoritative business terms, definitions and appropriate use of data, define/measure/surface/resolve data quality, draft policies, standards and guidelines, and ensure compliance with approved policies. They will coordinate and work with other Lead Data Stewards and Data Stewards across other data domains in Temporary Working Groups to resolve cross-data domain issues.

The Lead Data Steward position champions Data Governance efforts within the Location data domain, focusing on business benefits, fostering the goal of data re-use, and articulates the strategic significance of consistent, accurate and reliable information to executives and associates.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Executes on the established data governance framework with limited direction
  • Leads and coordinates efforts for associated Data Stewards within the data domain, subdomain or for an analytic data asset
  • Represents the collective of associated Data Stewards for their data domain or subdomain
  • Defines business terms, business definitions, value sets, entity relationships, and approves technical definitions for data elements within their domain or subdomain
  • Escalates issues to the Data Governance Stewardship Council and/or Leadership, as appropriate, for resolution
  • Serves as a liaison for/to Ascension for the Master Data Management Team 
  • Performs gap analysis of physical systems of relevant domain or subdomain data, and defines data mapping when necessary
  • Understands high-level data processes and down-stream impacts of changes to those processes.
  • Coordinates and participates in regularly scheduled and ad hoc Data Steward meetings, forums, work groups, and educational sessions
  • Participates in training and meetings to facilitate the sharing of data across functional areas and understanding of stewardship best practices
  • Communicates Master Data Management process, practices and expectations to Ascension stakeholders as appropriate
  • Collaborates with the Data Quality team and other teams to manage and resolve identified data quality issues
  • Is a subject matter expert for the Location data domain, with a solid understanding of metadata management and data governance operations
  • Creates and manages visual workflows for their assigned data domain, in accordance with the governance framework
  • Solves moderately complex data governance problems creatively and within the framework
  • Works with stakeholders to define metrics that are impactful for the business
  • Maintains close working relationship with data providers and partners

  • Have clear understanding of the relevant functional area(s), the data being managed, and its implications downstream to other systems, processes, and applications
  • Knowledge of the business rules for the relevant functional area(s)
  • Use data as a key capability in current role
  • Proficient in basic data concepts (management, modeling, curation/wrangling)
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and proactive (takes initiative)
  • Ability to analyze complex processes into sub-processes
  • Excellent oral, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong meeting facilitation skills as well as presentation skills

Requirements

Education:

  • High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.


Additional Preferences

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Healthcare or Science related major
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment preferred
  • General knowledge of healthcare operations, location data management, the interrelationship of systems, and how technology enables business processes
  • Basic knowledge of backend database configuration and processes
  • Previous location and clinical systems knowledge is preferred, both in the inpatient and ambulatory settings
  • Proficient to advanced Google Suite skills (Docs, Sheets, Slides)
