What You Will Do
Lead the Analytic Product Data Layer Engineering team within the Advanced Healthcare Data Intelligence team. This team will be responsible for developing curated and verified data sets (data marts) for use by the Ascension Data Science Institute functional analytics teams. The team will work with the Ascension Technologies team in development and implementation of the Ascension Data Lake on the Google Cloud Platform. Technologies include migrations of data from MS SQL, Oracle SQL, Hadoop, and others databases to the new platform.
Responsibilities:
Designing and planning for solutions in the various data subject areas as it relates to data storage and movement solutions: data warehousing, enterprise system data architecture, data design (e.g., Logical and Physical Modeling), data persistence technologies, data processing, data management, and data analysis.
Launch and support new data models that provide intuitive analytics to internal customers
Work with data science team to integrate Advanced Analytics Solutions using Machine Learning Algorithms
Lead teams of engineers and be familiar with standard Agile project management processes (scrum, Kanban, etc.) including forecasting of effort and project timelines
Identify professional growth areas for each engineer on the team and proactively provide opportunities for increasing their skill set as engineers.
Provide deep strategic technical expertise and guidance in the design/architecture/planning stage of a project. Provide guidance during the execution/implementation as necessary. Help the team manage projects using agile engineering methodologies.
Automate processes using ETL and scripting best practices
50% hands on Data Analytics/Data Engineering
50% managing a team of engineers
What You Will Need
Education:
- High school diploma/GED with 2 years of experience, or Associate's degree, or Bachelor's degree required.
Work Experience:
- 3 years of experience required.
- 5 years of experience preferred.
- 1 year of leadership or management experience preferred.
Technical skills:
Broad knowledge of software development techniques, processes, methods and best practices. Proficiency with various programming languages.
Strong understanding of Agile development methods and its application to company technology needs.
Experienced in scalable, high-availability back end technologies Oracle, SQL Server, Hadoop, Google Big Query.
Must have 5+ years of recent hands-on programming experience in at least 2 of the following R, Python, SAS, SPSS, and/or other analytics tools and languages
Must have 5+ years of recent hands-on experience with SQL, RDMS, and modern data platforms, and Data Visualization skills using Tableau or similarly toolset
Experience in these Google Cloud Platform toolsets are a plus: Big Query, Dataproc, Dataflow, Composer, Storage, Pub/Sub, or other Big Data tools.
Management Skills:
Must be resourceful, industrious, and willing to take on new tasks and proactively learn new technologies to keep up with business needs.
Must be able to work under tight deadlines efficiently and with high quality.
Must possess strong organizational skills with demonstrated attention to detail.
Must be flexible and able to adapt in a changing business environment.
Must possess a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Must be a team player and able to successfully lead and assist lower level team members on project work.
Other skills:
Strong analytical and reasoning skills that result in clear technical execution
Skill at translating requirements into clean, efficient and quality code
Passion to deliver craftsman-quality work both individually and as part of a team
Solid communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Desire to learn new skills and grow competencies
Work with partners across IT and business units to build and maintain the data infrastructure and advance Ascension’s analytic capabilities
Knowledge of healthcare systems and data is a plus.
