Brief Overview

The Manager, Data Engineering will lead a team of 10 – 15 data engineers, working closely with direct reports, product managers, UI/UX designers, QA, and other engineering teams to build the future state data platform for Amwell.

A successful candidate will have an established background with strong technical ability, excellent project management skills, great communication skills, and the motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment

Core Responsibilities

  • lead a team of 10 - 15 data engineers, delivering highly available and reliable software for large, critical, and complex systems
  • Define and drive tactical decisions around Data Platform domain while providing input into larger strategic decisions around data infrastructure.
  • Manage a team of hardworking Data Platform engineers, supporting career and technical development opportunities
  • Work with product engineering, product management and other stakeholders to build and maintain a technical roadmap that solves our biggest data challenges

  • Ensure your team delivers an extraordinary output and continuously seeks ways to make an outsized impact
  • Instill best practices for software development and documentation, assure designs meet requirements, and deliver high-quality work on tight schedules.
  • Prioritize, plan projects and features, and manage sprint planning

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of professional experience working as a data engineer, software engineer, or related field
  • 3+ years of management experience leading data engineering teams.
  • History of defining team mission & executing deliverables on time.
  • Experience in Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing.
  • Experience working in agile environment
  • A bias to action & ability to motivate a team to challenge conventional software engineering thinking.
  • Experience with cloud-based data lake architecture with GCP and BigQuery
  • Expertise in SQL, Python, and system architecture
  • Ability to lead technical design sessions and influence code reviews too.

The team is building next generation data platform to bring data across multiple systems to drive the insights.
