About the Role

It is an exciting time at Dutchie as we are in the early stages of building our team. We are looking for a Data Engineering Manager who is customer-obsessed and thrives in a fast-paced environment. This role requires strong technical and business acumen, solid communication, and project management skills. As a Senior Manager of Data Engineering in the Data Platforms team, you will start with a small data engineering team and scale over time. This team will build Dutchie's next generation of data warehouse and data lake and implement new roles & access management systems. Additionally, you will build the underlying data infrastructure, data pipelines, and operational workflows for both data acquisition & data integration. You will automate existing manual processes, work with the modern data stack, and participate in design & architecture.

You will collaborate closely with the product managers, software engineers, infrastructure, & operations teams. You will partner with the analytics engineers, data analysts, data scientists, and the data governance teams on multiple projects to build data products that many teams across the company will consume.

Data Platforms is the core team at Dutchie for building a world-class data platform that enables analysts, product managers, executives, business functions, researchers, and data scientists to harness the full power of data responsibly. 

In the Data Platforms org, we build and operate technologies for data storage, management, and processing at scale, along with core applications that use those technologies.

What You'll Do...

  • Mentor the professional development of direct reports through personal and performance management. Build diverse and distributed teams and collaborative environments.
  • Build, maintain & operate a scalable, performant, and containerized infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using AWS services.
  • Design, develop and own robust, scalable data processing and data integration pipelines using Python, dbt, Kafka, Fivetran, Dagster, Spark, REST API endpoints, and microservices to ingest data from a variety of external data sources to Snowflake & S3
  • Build, maintain & operate a scalable, performant, and containerized data lake.
  • Create data frameworks to help with data quality, data integrity, data integration, & self-service.
  • Partner with the Analytics Engineering team to ensure the performance and reliability of our data warehouse.
  • Identify data needs for business and product teams, understand the specific requirements for metrics and analysis.
  • Orchestrate sophisticated data flow patterns across a variety of disparate tooling.
  • Build and enforce a pattern language across our data stack, ensuring that our event taxonomy and tables are consistent, accurate, and well-understood.
  • Partner with the Data Governance team to implement data compliance policies and tooling
  • Architect & manage Snowflake Data Warehouse and other data tools.

What You Bring...

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in data engineering or software engineering designing, creating and maintaining scalable data pipelines with Python or through API calls and scripting languages. Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, data lakes, and building ETL pipelines.
  • 1+ years of hands-on management experience
  • Hands-on approach to closing gaps in data infrastructure and technical execution, able to code in SQL and Python
  • Experience with Snowflake architecture and its roles and access management
  • Experience leading a team to help design and build our data infrastructure and work with emerging technologies such as Snowflake and associated AWS cloud services while driving solutions end-to-end. Understand business requirements, workflow instrumentation, data modeling, and ETL
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, think big, execute both strategically and tactically, and motivate and mentor your team to deliver business values to our customers on time
  • You know how to help engineers navigate priorities and communicate clear expectations with stakeholders
  • You have a passion for taking a customer-driven approach to building high-quality software. You take pride in owning & maintaining what you have built
  • Skilled at coaching and guiding your directors and ICs through their career development. Experience in performance management, hiring and growing teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator to technical and less technical audiences, as well as partner management and project management skills
