Udemy is looking for a data scientist to join our new team focused on exploring novel applications of deep learning and foundational models (e.g., GPT-3, OPT-175B, BLOOM) to improve the learning experience. In this role, you will build products that leverage deep learning. You will work as part of a cross-functional agile team that includes software engineers, machine learning engineers, data scientists, designers, and product managers. Success in this role requires a combination of product intuition, data analysis skills, deep learning knowledge, and the coding chops to dive head first into development on production systems.

We are passionate about learning, making an impact, and building with quality. We love taking on new technical challenges. We are interested in building a diverse, collaborative, and fun environment. Come help us improve lives through learning!

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with PMs, designers, and engineers to scope and build data products.
  • Perform statistical analysis, feature engineering, and model development for ML-based data products.
  • Develop production-grade data pipelines to power ML-based data products.
  • Develop key metrics and monitor performance of the products.
  • Design and analyze experiments.
  • Proactively influence product prioritization through data-driven insights.
  • Provide technical mentorship for other team members.
  • Build Udemy’s technical brand through talks, blog posts, and publications.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience building complex data products
  • 3+ years of hands-on industry experience in a data science-oriented role
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge of statistics, machine learning, and natural language processing
  • Proficiency with SQL and 1+ programming languages (e.g., Python or Scala)

Preferred, but not required

  • Familiarity with standard software engineering practices and distributed computing
  • Experience using big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark)

We understand that not everyone will match each and every one of the above qualifications. If your background isn’t perfectly aligned but you feel you would be a great addition to the team, we’d love to hear from you.
