Udemy is looking for a data scientist to join our new team focused on exploring novel applications of deep learning and foundational models (e.g., GPT-3, OPT-175B, BLOOM) to improve the learning experience. In this role, you will design, build, and integrate products and scalable systems that leverage deep learning. You will work in a wide stack including big data and streaming technologies as part of a cross-functional agile team that includes software engineers, machine learning engineers, data scientists, designers, and product managers.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain machine learning and deep learning related systems, platforms, and tools at scale.
• Translate machine learning and deep learning solutions into scalable production implementations.
• Partner with data scientists to troubleshoot and optimize complex machine learning and deep learning applications.
• Contribute to re-architecting Udemy’s next-generation learning systems.
• Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to identify opportunities to improve our platform.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of full-time experience with software engineering or data engineering or equivalent
• Strong knowledge of algorithms and data structures
• Strong knowledge of machine learning lifecycle and hands-on experience on a variety of fundamental methods
• Familiarity with deep learning and foundational language models
• Proficiency with Python
• Experience in building complex data products at scale
• Good understanding of parallel and distributed computing
• Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Self-driven, highly motivated, and able to learn quickly

Preferred, but not required

• Experience with big data storage and processing frameworks such as Hadoop, Hive, and Spark
• Experience with Kafka, Redis, and Cassandra
• Experience with the design, development, and operational maintenance of large-scale platforms and services
