To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for an experienced Data Scientist to own Grammarly's experimentation framework from the perspective of statistical testing and metrics. This role requires deep domain knowledge of statistical methods, experimentation best practices, experience developing experimentation platform tooling, and technical leadership skills. A Data Scientist in this role would:

  • Shape the roadmap and experimentation best practices for teams across Grammarly.
  • Advance our statistical rigor and methodologies.
  • Accelerate the cadence and quality of experiments.
  • Partner closely with Engineering to enable our ability to scale.

Data Scientists at Grammarly are trusted subject matter experts who uncover new insights to inform product and growth strategies. We have large datasets and are looking for folks with deep technical and analytical skills to break down complex business problems and provide solutions with high visibility and impact for the company.

Your impact

As a Data Scientist in this role, you will: 

  • Take on a broad scope of work and an evolving role at a rapidly growing company.
  • Evaluate current experimentation practices across the organization and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop best practices for experimentation capabilities across the organization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product, and marketing, to define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for experiments.
  • Conduct literature reviews and share best practices with the organization, providing guidance and support for stakeholders involved in experimentation design and review
  • Conduct deep-dive analyses into user behavior.
  • Drive direction on the Product and Growth teams.
  • Opportunity-size new strategic levers.
  • Provide data-driven solutions to complex product and growth questions.

We’re looking for someone who

  • Embodies our EAGER values—is ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable.
  • Is able to collaborate in person 2 weeks per quarter, traveling if necessary to the hub where the team is based.
  • Holds a PhD or master’s degree in a quantitative field.
  • Has 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Has experience as an influential and effective thought partner to product teams. 
  • Demonstrates strong communication, proactiveness, creativity, and prioritization skills.
  • Has strong analytical and critical thinking skills as well as a strong bias toward actionable insights.
  • Has experience helping others understand numbers.
  • Has practical experience in data analysis, statistics, and experimentation.
  • Is proficient in SQL, Python, R, Scala, or an equivalent language.

Grammarly takes a market-based approach to compensation, which means base pay may vary depending on your location. Our US and Canada locations are categorized into compensation zones based on each geographic region’s cost of labor index. Base pay may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The expected salary ranges for this position are outlined below by compensation zone and may be modified in the future. 

United States: 

Zone 1: $226,000 $281,000/year (USD)

Zone 2: $203,000 $253,000/year (USD)

Zone 3: $192,000 $239,000/year (USD)

Zone 4: $181,000 $225,000/year (USD)
