As a Senior NLP Data Scientist at Lightcast, you will be at the forefront of developing and implementing advanced natural language processing (NLP) algorithms and models to extract valuable information from large volumes of text data. You will be critical in driving innovation and differentiated capabilities in our workforce intelligence solutions by leveraging your deep expertise in NLP, machine learning, and statistical modeling. Your work will help us improve our products and deliver actionable insights to our clients.

Major Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement advanced NLP algorithms and models to extract information from diverse text data sources, such as job postings and resumes, focusing on accuracy and performance optimization.
• Build and fine-tune machine learning models, including pre-trained language models like BERT, GPT-2, and Transformer-XL, using frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Conduct research and stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in NLP, machine learning, and related fields, bringing innovative solutions to address complex challenges.
• Collaborate closely with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to define project objectives, requirements, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with business goals.
• Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders, presenting findings and insights clearly, concisely, and compellingly.
• Mentor and guide junior data scientists, fostering their professional growth and promoting a culture of continuous learning and development.
• Contribute to advancing the organization’s data science capabilities by sharing knowledge, best practices, and insights with the broader team.

Skills & Abilities:

• Advanced knowledge of natural language processing (NLP) techniques, including text mining, text analysis, information extraction, and sentiment analysis.
• Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and statistical models, with experience implementing and fine-tuning pre-trained large language models.
• Proficiency in the Python data science ecosystem, including Pandas, NumPy, spaCy, sci-kit-learn, NLTK, and Gensim.
• Ability to stay current with emerging trends and technologies in NLP, machine learning, and related fields, applying innovative approaches to solve complex problems.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, creativity, and the ability to design new and effective solutions when no suitable approaches are available.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to handle and analyze large volumes of text data and derive actionable insights.

Education & Experience:

• A graduate degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of industry experience in developing and implementing NLP algorithms and models, focusing on text mining and analysis.
• Proven track record of utilizing machine learning algorithms and statistical models to extract valuable insights from large datasets.
• Experience with contemporary machine learning and NLP frameworks and designing and building scalable pipelines for analyzing text data.
