We’re looking for a Senior Data Science Manager that will help in changing the way ads have been delivered over the last 20 years, breaking models, assumptions and thinking innovatively about protecting Pinner experience while generating revenue. The team is responsible for supporting all the surfaces in the Pinterest app – Home Feed, Search, Related Pins, Shopping Surfaces, Idea Streams etc. Each of them brings its own complexity and challenges which will provide exposure to a wide variety of data science problems to solve. This person would work with world class data science and ML talent in building the next generation advertising products and become a leader of leaders, developing a best in-class team of technical data scientists.
What will this person do?
- Build, inspire and grow a high performance, responsive team of data scientists and analysts that are able to not only keep up with but also pioneer in this space
- Working with product and engineering partners help identify and answer important “why” questions. Lead the team to structure ambiguous business challenges into actionable plans. Ensure that your team is producing consistently trustworthy and high-quality technical outputs that influence the business.
- Help improve the measurements, metrics and decision making framework for improvements to our ads quality stack.
- Communicate complex analytical findings and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
- Continuously research and stay up-to-date with the latest developments in data science, causal inference, and advertising technology to drive innovation within the Ads Team.
- Be a champion for building a highly talented and diverse team with an inclusive culture.
What we’re looking for:
- MS or PhD in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Statistics, etc.
- Data Scientist, ML engineer or SWE in Digital Ads
- 6+ years of experience as a data scientist, algorithmic engineering, or machine learning
- 3+ years of experience in managing and mentoring data science, data engineering, and analytics teams in a technology company
- Experience with related technical areas:
- Statistical software (e.g. R, Python, MATLAB) and database languages (e.g. SQL)
- Data science models (Regression, Decision Trees, K-Means, etc.)
- Experience with large data sets and analytical tools, e.g. Hive, Spark
- Demonstrated skills in selecting the right statistical tools given a data analysis problem. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with hypothesis driven product development.
