About the team

The  Governance Data Science team consists of analytics engineers and data scientists with diverse educational backgrounds such as math, operations research, economics, computer science, engineering and business. The team is responsible for support teams within Wealthsimple to pro-actively establish good Governance practices and aid in ensuring internal and external conformity using Data and Technology.

We achieve these goals by:

Building a high quality and scalable state-of-the-art data warehouse that powers all compliance/ audit reporting needs
Having deep and nuanced understanding of Financial and Compliance requirements
Engagement with Product team when they are working on new products and features in order to understand risk requirement and what data we need to capture to be on the right side of compliance
Leveraging tools such as Process Mining and Complex Systems Simulation to ensure and report on compliant behaviour

About the role: 

As an Analytics Engineer, you will be at the intersection of business, product teams, data scientists and privacy/risk/governance officers. You will be responsible for building robust, efficient and integrated data models that enable analytics and machine learning across the company. You will play a critical role in building the source of truth in the data warehouse. The successful Analytics Engineer is able to blend business acumen and software engineering best practices while effectively communicating with stakeholders. 

We are looking for a data scientist with strong foundations in SQL & DBT and working understanding of financial products, privacy regulations, risk management and compliance framework.

Some projects include:

Building a self-serve tool to aid in pulling general and baseline data requirements that covers majority of audits and their requirements
Developing a product-compliance playbook to educate product teams about compliance needs and adjoining data requirements 
Working with Privacy and Governance Stakeholders to build Data Maps needed for upcoming Canadian Privacy regulatory requirements

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

Build data models in cloud data warehouse that will be used as the source of truth for analytics across the company
Apply software engineering best practices like version control and continuous integration to the analytics code base
Work closely with, and to refine product experiences that meet regulatory needs in our Crypto, Trade, Invest and Cash Products
Ensure data models are well tested, documented and maintained
Believe that simple is better, Occam's razor is your friend.

Skills we are looking for:

Excellent SQL
Experience with dbt
Comfortable with software engineering best practices like version control and using Git
Experience with a cloud data warehousing (Snowflake, Bigquery, Redshift)
Proficient understanding of data warehousing methodologies and concepts (Kimball, Inmon, etc)
Working understanding of Canadian financial & privacy regulations
Experience working as part of a data team; either a data analyst, data scientist, or data engineer
Able to build and maintain multi-functional relationships with various teams across the business
Excellent communicator who is able to translate business requirements into data models and maintain clear
Knowledge of another programming language e.g. Python is a plus.
Fivetran or Stitch for data extraction and loading as Plus
