About the team

Strong credit risk management will be a critical component of enabling innovative and responsible credit offerings across Wealthsimple’s products. As a newly formed team, the Credit Data Science team will own the full lifecycle of our approach to credit from machine learning risk models, credit policy and extensible frameworks for lending decisions all while building a feedback loop to continuously improve our understanding of risk. We achieve these goals by:

Building a high quality and scalable state-of-the-art data warehouse that powers all decision making
Leveraging machine learning and algorithms to help Wealthsimple build smarter financial products
Using decision science to understand the cause and effect of our business decisions

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

    • Lead a team data scientists as we build a best-in-class credit risk modelling team
    • Help architect the next stage of Wealthsimple’s systems, supporting millions of clients.
    • Deploy new machine learning models, business rules and analytical solutions to optimize credit policies
    • Collaborate with other business units to ensure products are built cohesively with credit risk management at the forefront across the platform
    • Get the best out of the team by leveraging their diverse educational backgrounds.
    • Set organizational standards and influence our data science and engineering culture.
    • Work where you are (while our Canadian offices are located in Toronto, we are a remote-first workforce and you can join from anywhere in Canada!)

Skills we're looking for:

    • Experience leading Data Science teams and a proven dedication to helping your team and others grow.
    • Excellent Python & SQL skills, first hand experience working with popular Python libraries such as Pandas, scikit-learn, numpy and Jupyter
    • Strong understanding of statistics: both frequentist and Bayesian approaches.
    • Strong understanding of fundamental machine-learning algorithms: regression and decision trees.
