About the team:
The Data Science & Engineering (DSE) team consists of data scientists and software engineers with diverse educational backgrounds such as math, operations research, economics, computer science, engineering and business. The team is responsible for enabling data-driven decision making and building data products at Wealthsimple. We achieve these goals by:
- Building a high quality and scalable state-of-the-art data warehouse that powers all decision making
- Leveraging machine learning and algorithms to help Wealthsimple build smarter financial products
- Using decision science to understand the cause and effect of our business decisions

About the roles:
We are hiring for several roles for four of the Data Science & Engineering teams. Note: please specify the role(s) for which you are applying.

Client Algorithms:
We are looking for a data scientist with strong foundations in Python programming, fundamental understanding of machine learning algorithms, and preferably domain knowledge in client experience. As a Data Scientist on the Clients Algorithms team, you will play a pivotal role in improving the client experience and operational workflows that power our business. You will work closely with the client experience and the core operations team, a highly cross functional team consisting of full stack developers, product managers and operation specialists, to find new opportunities to enhance the client journey.

Fraud Algorithms:
We are looking for a data scientist who has strong foundations in data modelling, statistics and domain knowledge in fraud. As a Data Scientist on the Fraud Algorithms team, you will play a pivotal role in preventing and detecting fraud across all our products. You will work closely with the Product teams and the Fraud Ops team to build fast and accurate feedback loops for the performance of our rule based and probabilistic models.

Growth Algorithms:
We are looking for a data scientist who has strong foundations in experimental design, statistics and domain knowledge in marketing. As a Data Scientist on the Growth Algorithms team, you will play a pivotal role in helping grow the number of clients using and loving Wealthsimple’s products. You will work closely with the Growth Marketing team, a highly cross functional team consisting of full stack developers, designers, product managers and growth specialists, to find new opportunities to grow Wealthsimple.

Risk Algorithms:
We are looking for a data scientist who has strong foundations in statistics, machine learning algorithms, and domain knowledge in credit and risk scoring. As a Data Scientist on the Risk Algorithms team, you will play a pivotal role in quantifying credit and risk worthiness of clients. You will work closely with the Product, Operations, and Finance teams, a highly cross-functional team consisting of full stack developers, product managers, and operations specialists to find new opportunities to manage and control risk.

Skills we are looking for:

    • Excellent Python & SQL skills
    • Strong understanding of statistics: both frequentist and Bayesian approaches
    • Strong understanding of fundamental machine-learning algorithms: regression and decision trees
    • 3+ years experience working with popular Python libraries such as Pandas, scikt-learn, numpy and Jupyter
    • Excellent communicator who is able to tailor our fraud fighting narrative to their audience
    • It’s a bonus if you have hands-on experience with Apache Airflow, and a BI tool like Periscope, Mode Analytics or Tableau
