The Provider team is building data-driven products for healthcare practitioners to help them improve patient care and reduce costs. The Provider data science team uses machine learning models, natural language processing (NLP), and patient medical histories to group similar patients together and better understand common medical care journeys.

Responsibilities

  • Perform exploratory data analysis
  • Collaborate with data engineers to test changes to existing data processes and report findings
  • Assist in feature engineering
  • Assist in data quality assessment
  • Utilize and optimize existing NLP models and assess quality of their output
  • Understand and maintain data pipelines from raw sources to feature stores for models
  • Ability to communicate within the team on project status / blockers to get help when needed and render aid when able
  • Ability to adhere to security and data protection policies
  • High quality documentation of work
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues, management, and clients to solve complex problems
  • Ability to maintain focus and a positive outlook in a fast-paced and changing environment where team success is not judged on delivering the “perfect” model, but on continuous model improvement
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, math, or a STEM discipline
  • Experience with SQL
  • Experience using Python for data science and machine learning
  • Experience with source control for code (Git preferred)

Preferred skills

  • 1-2 years post-graduate training or similar post-grad work experience in data science or data engineering
  • Familiarity with healthcare data
  • Experience with cloud-based compute (AWS and/or Spark preferred)
  • Understanding of natural language processing (NLP) concepts and/or a history of using NLP python packages (NLTK, HuggingFace, spaCy, SparkNLP, etc)
  • Experience writing regular expressions (regex)
  • Experience with Agile development, continuous integration, testing, deployment & release methodologies
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and the importance of privacy of patient data
