We are looking for a Data Engineer to build and drive Data engineering initiatives within the team. In this role, you will be instrumental in streamlining data ingested from multiple sources to not only recognize value and insights, but also set standards along the way. You will help build a platform that will store all of Spotify users' data relevant for ad targeting under one hood, thereby helping our ad servers show users ads that are personalized and relevant. This is so that we can grow to billions of fans, increasing engagement with our listeners and providing better value to our advertisers. Above all, your work will impact the way the world experiences music.

What You'll Do

  • Work across the ads business platform, contributing to the improvement of many different pipelines
  • Build large-scale batch and real-time data pipelines with data processing frameworks like Scio, Storm, and Spark
  • Design, develop, and maintain Java services
  • Use best practices in continuous integration and delivery
  • Help drive optimization, testing and tooling to improve reliability and data quality
  • Collaborate with other engineers, specialists and partners, taking learning and leadership opportunities that will arise every single day
  • Work in cross-functional agile teams to continuously experiment, iterate and deliver on new product objectives

Who You Are

  • You are knowledgeable and passionate about improving and building distributed data pipelines
  • You have experience building high-volume/business-critical, distributed services in Java or Scala that ingest data across multiple sources
  • You are knowledgeable about data modeling, data access, and data storage techniques
  • You have an understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms
  • You enjoy close collaboration with backend and web engineers, and are passionate about the software architecture across the stack
  • You are familiar with current data engineering practices and are curious about new technologies that help derive insights and value from data
  • You care about agile software processes, data-driven development, reliability, and responsible experimentation
  • You care about quality and know what it means to ship high quality code
