OnStar Insurance was launched in 2020 and will be in all US states by end of 2022. OnStar Insurance Services intends to leverage its unique understanding of the vehicles GM produces to offer a secure, fair, personalized, and easy-to-use digital insurance experience for drivers. GM has the largest connected vehicle fleet worldwide. In the US alone, there are currently 9M+ connected GM vehicles on the road and that number is projected to triple in the next 10 years. More than that, the OnStar system currently has access to over 900 data points from the vehicle. This surge in information about vehicles and how they are driven will revolutionize auto insurance. This disruption is backed by the bold GM vision of zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion. We are serious about the safety and financial security of our customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Use SQL and Python to write production-quality code to meet the data transformation needs of analysts, data scientists, and other business partners
• Work with both business stakeholders and other data engineers to design, develop and maintain best-in-class data ELT pipelines
• Provide clean, transformed data ready for analysis and reporting
• Translate business requirements into logic logical, efficient, well-documented data models
• Partner with solution architects and software engineers across our IT team to deploy and monitor our solutions
• Research and develop new tools and technologies to enable our success

Additional Description

Minimum Requirements

• 2+ years of applicable work experience
• Demonstrated proficiency in the use of SQL and Python to wrangle, clean, and integrate data from a variety of sources
• Ability to build and optimize data sets, big data data pipelines and architectures
• Ability to balance multiple projects at once and deliver projects independently
• Understanding of CI/CD
• Strong communication skills including explaining technical concepts to non-technical business stakeholders
• Practical experience using data visualization and/or BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) to analyze data
• Ability and motivation to learn new technologies

Nice to Have, But Not Required

• B.S. in Computer Technology, Information Systems or related field
• A familiarity working with Agile project management
• Demonstrated experience with Git/Github, dbt Core/Cloud, and Airflow
• Experience building and managing data pipelines and repositories in cloud environments such as Microsoft Azure and Databricks
• Experience using third-party tools for data integration (i.e. Fivetran, Stitch, Funnel.io)
