Position in these functions may include database architecture, engineering, design, optimization, security, and administration; as well as data modeling, big data development, Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) development, storage engineering, data warehousing, data provisioning and other similar roles. Responsibilities may include Platform-as-a-Service and Cloud solution with a focus on data stores and associated eco systems. Duties may include management of design services, providing sizing and configuration assistance, ensuring strict data quality, and performing needs assessments. Analyzes current business practices, processes and procedures as well as identifying future business opportunities for leveraging data storage and retrieval system capabilities. Manages relationships with software and hardware vendors to understand the potential architectural impact of different vendor strategies and data acquisition. May design schemas, write SQL or other data markup scripting and helps to support development of Analytics and Applications that build on top of data. Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function. Analyzes and investigates. Provides explanations and interpretations within area of expertise.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Establishing solid data requirements to integrate data from all upstream data sources
  • Work with the project team (both technical and business) to ensure requirements are accurate and clearly understood by those participating in the project
  • Designs, develops, and implements solutions that exemplify modern data & software engineering practices
  • Reuses and/or develops for reuse complex components or capabilities to solve complex problems and needs, enhances system design/architecture to simplify and improve resiliency in system interactions and dependencies
  • Anticipate emerging customer needs and develops cost friendly innovative solutions to meet them – Incorporates business objectives when evaluating processes to remove redundancies and waste, considers the customer experience, business impact and solution objective when managing risks and development and design of solution, Work on Proof of Concepts for Big Data and Data Science
  • Maintains current perspective on technology trends, applying that to personal and team capability growth. Implement strategies directed at acquiring data and promoting the development of new insights across the business
  • Sorts through large amounts of data to assess for relevancy, seeks out multiple sources to gather information
  • Identifies cause and effect relationships between known and unknown variables
  • Develop tools, techniques, and metrics, and dashboards for insights and data visualization
  • Support practices, policies and operating procedures and ensures alignment to departmental objectives and strategy
  • Identifies applicable security/data standards when reviewing requirements and recommends controls to ensure compliance, Pro-actively monitors adherence of assigned systems to recommended security settings
  • Document business requirements for new structures in the data warehouse to support product data analytics and reporting initiatives
  • Create source to target documents which includes not only mapping data element and data types but also identifying rules, calculations, filters to integrate data appropriately
  • Help define acceptance test objectives, test cases, and assist in system and integration testing
  • Build solid relationship with IT operational leaders to ensure connectivity to the business
  • Define best practices and standards for analyzing and processing data. Contribute to technical documentation of specifications and processes
  • Collaborate with teammates, stakeholders, and other teams to identify and address systems problems, provide input on current and new designs and resolve issues
  • Implements and continuously improves agile software delivery, code management, and operations practices

Required Qualifications: 

  • Computer Science bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 3+ years of Data Engineering experience
  • 3+ years of experience working with relational databases (ORACLE, DB2), Writing Complex SQL Queries
  • 3+ years of experience with data warehouses/marts, relational database architecture, design, and development
  • 2+ years of experience Building ETL/data pipelines using Informatica
  • 2+ years of Unix scripting experience
  • 1+ years of Python experience
  • Experience working in projects with agile/scrum methodologies
  • Proven research, writing, and communication skills
  • Proven ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced Agile environment managing multiple priorities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Healthcare Industry experience
  • Experience with Azure, Databricks and Snowflake
  • Experience with data quality and profiling tools (Example – Tableau)
  • Experience with data mining tools (Example – MicroStrategy)
  • Experience in JAVA
  • Extensive experience in complex projects with division or company-wide scope
  • Cloud experience
  • Exposure & some experience in the following technologies
    • DevOps
    • Kafka

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
