Fraud Analytics @ Wealthsimple
Fraud Analytics is a new domain within the engineering group at Wealthsimple. It’s our belief that there is an opportunity to fight fraud and financial crime with the pragmatic application of machine learning. While some manual work will always have to be done, we intend to keep that to a minimum. By unifying fraud countermeasures and fraud detection functions under one leader we aim to create quick feedback loops and data driven solutions.
We envision that the Fraud Analytics team will have people from diverse educational backgrounds: math, business operations, computer science and statistics with expertise in data science, fraud analytics, product management and software engineering.

The Role
Clients of Wealthsimple trust us with money for their day to day spending, stock trading, retirement, their children's education, or their first home. This trust is paramount to the success of Wealthsimple. We are looking for a Director of Fraud Analytics who will lead the team in building machine learning and data driven solutions to protect their finances and maintain trust.
Wealthsimple is a fintech company which makes it an attractive target for fraud and other financial crimes. In this role you will build a team of teams around fraud detection and fraud countermeasures. You will provide technical mentorship to your team and act as a people lead, while reporting to the VP of Fraud and Risk.
Your core responsibilities are
- Build best-in-class Fraud Detection and Countermeasures teams
- Scale the team to effectively fight new and emerging threats
- Build real-time fraud monitoring and response capabilities
- Deploy new machine learning models, business rules and analytical solutions to prevent fraud while limiting customer friction
- Collaborate with other business units to ensure products are built cohesively with fraud risk management at the forefront across the platform.

We are looking for someone who
- A builder: you love building inclusive and diverse teams and you love building fraud detection frameworks
- Analytically strong and always looking for better ways to use data to improve fraud detection
- Has strong understanding of fundamental machine-learning algorithms: regression, decision trees and deep learning.
- Has worked in the fraud detection space for 5+ years.
- Able to balance the interests of our customers (frictionless & instant user experience) and the financial risk to Wealthsimple.
- Able to tailor our fraud fighting narrative to their audience using their excellent communication skills.
