Manager of ML Engineering
General Mills is looking for a Manager of ML Engineering. In this role, you will be a manager of people within a highly technical team responsible for ensuring the overall technical and operational success of multiple programs as well as people development, process improvement and stakeholder engagement.
Key Accountabilities:
As technical manager and leader, you will be working as a Manager of ML Engineering to operationalize key strategic Machine Learning initiatives at General Mills:
- Full people leader responsibility of a team of 5-12 machine learning engineers.
- Creating effective learning and development plans for the team.
- Internal process improvement, automation and optimization.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to understand data science and ML Engineering needs as well as acting as an evangelist for the team’s capabilities.
- Resource planning and optimization.
- Software license renewal and management.
- Managing shifting priorities while maintaining overall operational effectiveness.
- Very strong sense of urgency.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (CS, engineering, statistics, math, data science).
- 3+ years in a manager of people role in some aspect of data science, machine learning, engineering, or data engineering.
- Strong knowledge of project/program management terminology/concepts and the ability to leverage this knowledge to ensure the success of initiatives.
- Specific experience in team development, creating training plans, managing the careers of employees and mentoring.
- Outstanding people skills with the ability to develop nuanced connections across the organization and engage/negotiate with stakeholders effectively.
- Specific experience examining team processes and looking for more optimal ways to work and collaborate.
- Ability to critically review recommendations and estimates from technical experts from the team.
- Prefer experience in the consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry.
- Prefer experience in environments where mission critical machine learning models were in operation with associated responsibility running teams tasked with keeping these models running effectively and investigating issues.

- The preferred location for this position is Minneapolis, MN - remote work applications will be considered.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $120500.00 - $201000.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifications, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
