Purpose of Job

The AML Quantitative Risk Analyst Senior will support the Control Validation function within Enterprise AML Operations Control team, analyzing, assessing, and testing data controls that are critical to the AML monitoring and Sanctions screening at USAA, providing effective internal challenges to model development assumptions, threshold setting, model tuning, and segmentation to ensure AML monitoring and Sanctions screening at USAA align with regulatory requirements, USAA risk profile and enterprise risk management policy and standards. The Quantitative Risk Analyst Senior will work closely with AML Information Stewards, AML Information Governance, AML Model Development team and AML IT towards improved AML data quality and model controls. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in AML monitoring, sanction screening, and AML risk typologies.

Provides risk management support for a line of business or staff agency in
key risk identification, measurement and aggregation, and the understanding and management of risk through appropriate quantitative and analytical practices and processes. Conducts and develops quantitative and analytic models, assessments and/or applications in support of risk management efforts that assess the market and identify risks and gaps in existing or proposed processes. Applies diverse methodologies and deep experience in quantitative analytics to identify and solve complex and/or undefined risk problems. Monitors the risk and control environment to ensure that exposures are kept at acceptable levels and may consult on risk mitigation plans. Works with leadership to remediate gaps and improvements identified between existing practices and regulatory requirements.

Job Requirements

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Uses advanced analytics to assess future risk, opportunities, and effectiveness and translates results into relevant solutions to enhance decision making.
  • Applies advanced knowledge and industry standard processes to quantify risk and aggregate exposures.
  • Engages in model validation and produces model validation reports.
  • Applies innovative and scientific/quantitative analytical approaches to draw conclusions and make recommendations to answer business objectives and motivate change.
  • Translates recommendations into communication materials to effectively present to colleagues for peer review and management.
  • Applies advanced knowledge to produce advanced analytical material for discussions with cross functional teams to understand complex business objectives and influence solution strategies.
  • Provides mentorship to other team members in the peer review process.

Minimum Qualifications: [education and min requirements are combined under this header]

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, or other quantitative subject area or 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • 6 years related quantitative analysis experience in a subject area relevant to risk management to include statistical analysis, modeling, mathematics or other quantitative subject area OR advanced degree/designation in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, or other quantitative subject area and 4 years work experience in a quantitative subject area relevant to risk management OR PhD in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, or other quantitative subject area and up to 2 years work experience in a quantitative subject area relevant to risk management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in BSA/AML transaction monitoring and Sanction screening model development, model tuning or model validation experience
  • 4+ years of advanced data analytics experience
  • 4+ years of Statistical analysis experience using SAS or Python
  • Experience working with big data and relational database
  • Experience with Actimize SAM, Actimize CDD and Bridger sanction screening highly desired
  • Familiarity with retail banking products and their associated BSA/AML and Sanction risks
  • CAMS or other applicable industry certification

Compensation:

USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $107,900- $194,200.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
