We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to build and drive data engineering initiatives within our Revenue Engineering Product Area at Spotify, which is based within the broader Financial Engineering Mission. This powerhouse team is accountable for delivering technology projects in the form of datasets and workflow automations to the Finance, Advertising Sales, Marketing, and other go-to-market (GTM) functions!

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing and streamlining data ingestion pipelines from multiple sources to not only recognize value and insights, but to also set standards along the way. Above all, your work will impact the way the world experiences music and podcasts by contributing to Spotify's revenue and experimentation ecosystem.

What You'll Do

    • Closely work with product managers and business stakeholders to come up with innovative ideas and solutions, while continuously improving existing processes
    • Work with state-of-the-art data processing frameworks, technologies, and platforms
    • Improve data quality through testing, tooling and continuously evaluating performance
    • Work with other software engineers, data analysts, data scientists, and decision-makers, such as product owners, to build solutions and gain novel insights into the Ads business
    • Work in Google Cloud Platform and technology/languages such as BigQuery, Scala, Scio and Docker
    • Work in multi-functional agile teams with end-to-end responsibility for product development and delivery within your mission
    • Apply a Data centric approach to all the platforms, pipelines and engineering activities
    • Mentor and coach other engineers on data engineering best practices
    • Be a technical leader within the team you work with, and within Spotify in general

Who You Are

    • An BS/MS in Computer Science or any other relevant fields of study
    • 7+ years of professional software engineering and programming experience (preferably in Scala) in an agile working environment
    • 4+ years of architecture and design (patterns, reliability, scalability, quality) of complex systems
    • Strong coding skills for analytics and data engineering (Scala/Java/Python)
    • You have experience with one or more higher-level JVM-based data processing frameworks such as Beam, Dataflow, Crunch, Scalding, Storm, Spark
    • Engineering experience with large scale distributed data technologies and tools in a large global consumer product company
    • Advanced coding skills and practices (concurrency, distributed systems, functional principles, performance optimization)
    • You have experience working on and building new distributed data pipelines that ingest huge amounts of data across multiple sources and brands
    • You have experience with GCP (preferred) or AWS
    • You are knowledgeable and passionate about improving and building data platforms
    • You care about agile software processes, data-driven development, reliability, and testability.
    • Experience in operating and maintaining production grade software
    • Comfortable with tackling very loosely defined problems and thrive when working on a team which has autonomy in their day to day decisions
    • Ad Tech experience is a plus

The United States base range for this position is $156,275 - $223,250, plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays, paid sick leave. This range encompasses multiple levels. Leveling is determined during the interview process.  Placement in a level depends on relevant work history and interview performance. These ranges may be modified in the future.
