THE CHALLENGE
At its heart, Eventbrite is a bustling marketplace where tens of thousands of events are posted every day and our users expect to post events and buy tickets instantly. The Policy and Platform Operations team makes sure that all of that goes smoothly and safely for everyone involved. Our creators get paid on time and our attendees find great experiences, even as the platform grows larger and more complex every day. Our data scientists power the automation that allows us to keep up with that growth by developing low friction, high precision detection algorithms that help us stay ahead of the ever-changing landscape of threats.
THE TEAM
The Policy and Platform Operations team is a small, high performing, multi-disciplinary team ranging from chargeback specialists and fraud analysts to policy design experts to data scientists. We are aligned on the common goal of keeping Eventbrite and its users safe, and we work closely with each other to ensure we are solving the underlying problem using the right solution.
THE ROLE
Our data scientists bring the automation. When that means high precision classification, you will work with our fraud and trust experts to understand all the important details to turn their understanding into machine learning. When that means seeing the big picture, you will use natural language processing to label our inventory as high or low risk, as political or comedy. You will leverage our in house decisioning platform to quickly test, improve, ship, and track models. And you will collaborate with our dedicated engineering team to deploy the solution you built in the lab into the field exactly the way you envisioned.
THE SKILL SET
- Fluency with machine learning and data mining techniques and concepts including proven ability to craft and track end-to-end, machine learning solutions
- Experience in an abuse prevention, operations automation or threat detection context including detailed knowledge of classification problems and heavily imbalanced datasets (>3 years)
- Comfort with data processing in Python and SQL (>5 years)
- Up to date knowledge of Natural Language Processing, supervised and unsupervised, designed for direct and downstream applicationA
- Ability to succinctly and accurately explain a complex technical solution to any audience
- Advanced Degree in Relevant Field
BONUS POINTS
- Comfort working in big data processing technologies like spark, hive, or presto
- Deep domain knowledge in fraud and spam, content moderation, payments or related topics
- Experience with machine learning development across multiple environments from the user path to batch offline
- Active Eventbrite user with a passion for live events
